Chapter 5 - Shadows of the O'Connor Cartel

While Adriana slept deeply in the warm master suite of the Beacon Hill mansion, Damon sat in his basement war room beneath the estate, staring at a bank of glowing monitors.

Dominic Vance, his head of tactical security—a massive man with a scarred neck and graying hair—stood behind him, dropping a thick red folder onto the desk.

“We ran a deep sweep on Adriana’s movements over the past six months,” Dominic reported, his voice low and heavy. “She’s been living under the alias 'Sarah Miller'. She’s been working six days a week at your restaurant and taking night shifts at a laundromat in Roxbury. She’s paid all her rent in cash.”

Damon’s jaw tightened. “How did she bypass our employment verification at St. Cordova?”

“She bought a fake social security card from a street vendor in East Boston,” Dominic explained. “The floor manager at St. Cordova was lazy. He didn't run a secondary background check because he was desperate for kitchen staff.”

Damon slammed his hand down on the desk, the loud thud echoing through the concrete room. “Fire him tomorrow. And put twenty thousand dollars into his severance account so he doesn't talk to anyone about what happened tonight.”

“Already done, boss,” Dominic said smoothly. “Now... there’s a bigger problem.”

Dominic tapped the monitor screen, bringing up a series of surveillance photographs taken three days ago near the South Boston docks.

“Liam O'Connor is back in town,” Dominic announced.

Damon’s eyes turned to liquid fire. Liam O'Connor was the boss of the O'Connor syndicate—the man who had ordered the hit on Damon six months ago that took Eli Voss’s life. After the failed ambush, Liam had fled to Dublin to hide from Damon’s brutal retaliation.

“Why is he back?” Damon demanded.

“He’s broke,” Dominic said, pulling up financial wire logs. “When you destroyed his shipping routes in June, you cut off his main pipeline. He came back to Boston to reclaim his turf, and he’s desperate for capital. Word on the street is that Marcus Marquetti—Celeste’s father—reached out to Liam last night after you revoked his loans.”

Damon leaned back in his leather chair, his minds connecting the pieces with lethal precision.

“Marquetti knows I bought his defaulted loans,” Damon murmured. “And Celeste knows I threw her out because of a pregnant waitress. If Marquetti puts two and two together...”

“They’ll target Adriana,” Dominic finished gravely. “Liam O'Connor knows he can't beat us in a direct war. But if he kidnaps Eli’s widow, he can force you to give up the docks in exchange for her life.”

Damon stood up slowly from his desk, his posture rigid, his frame radiating a dark, terrifying energy.

“Mobilize the entire perimeter,” Damon ordered, his voice dropping into a chilling whisper. “Double the guards at the Beacon Hill estate. I want snipers on the roof, motion sensors across the perimeter gardens, and two armored sedans standing by twenty-four seven.”

“Understood, boss,” Dominic bowed his head. “And what about Liam O'Connor?”

Damon looked at the photograph of the Irish mob boss on the screen, his steel-gray eyes devoid of every trace of human mercy.

“Track him,” Damon said. “Find out where he’s sleeping tonight. Because before this week is over, I am going to tear his empire down to the dirt.”
