Chapter 9 - The Storm Unleashed

A deafening, metallic hum echoed through the laboratory as the lights violently flickered from white to a blazing, unnatural green.

Leo's body began to glow. The air temperature inside the surgical room dropped thirty degrees in a split second, frost instantly spiderwebbing across the glass windows and metallic surfaces as the boy drew massive amounts of kinetic and thermal energy straight out of the room's electrical grid.

"What is he doing?!" Arthur screamed, stepping back in absolute terror as the control panels began to spark and explode. "Shoot him! No—don't shoot him! Subdue him!"

The electrical power from the facility's main generators didn't just overload the light fixtures—it surged through Leo's body, transforming him into a living conduit of raw, unfiltered kinetic energy.

CRACK!

A blinding arc of green electricity erupted from Leo's palm, slamming into the control panel. The surge traveled through the wiring, shooting up into the ceiling grid, blowing out every single light bulb, security camera, and electronic lock in the entire facility.

The heavy hydraulic locks holding Eleanor's glass cylinder shattered under the pressure.

BOOM!

The four-inch-thick bulletproof glass exploded outward in a massive wave of clear fluid and glittering glass shards.

The impact threw the mercenaries to the floor. Taking advantage of the sudden darkness and chaos, Marcus lunged upward, sweeping the legs of the guard holding him, grabbing his tactical knife, and neutralizing the second guard in two rapid, lethal motions.

"Charles! The valve!" Marcus yelled.

I didn't hesitate. I leaped across the wet floor, my newly restored legs driving me forward with incredible speed. I reached the falling frame of my sister, catching her pale, wet body before she hit the glass-strewn floor.

"Eleanor!" I cried, pulling the breathing tube from her throat, wrapping my dry coat around her cold, shivering body.

She coughed violently, clearing fluid from her lungs. Her eyelids fluttered open slowly, revealed those same brilliant green eyes I had missed for twenty painful years.

"Charles...?" she rasped, her weak, frail fingers reaching up to touch my face. "Your... your legs..."

"I'm walking, Ellie," I wept, kissing her forehead. "I'm walking. Leo saved me."

"Kill them! Kill them all!" Arthur's hysterical voice echoed through the dark, smoke-filled room.

He stood near the ruined exit door, pulling a small silver revolver from his lab coat pocket, aiming it directly at Eleanor's head.

Before he could pull the trigger, a hand caught his wrist.

It was a small, dirty hand, covered in bruised knuckles.

Leo stood beside Arthur Vance. The child's face was pale, his nose bleeding from the immense energy exertion, but his green eyes burned with an ancient, terrifying fury.

"You hurt my mommy," Leo whispered.

Leo pressed his thumb against Arthur's wrist.

Arthur let out a blood-curdling scream as the heat—the same liquid fire that had reconnected my dead nerves—surged into his arm in reverse. The bones in Arthur's wrist shattered under the violent thermal expansion, the silver revolver clattering to the floor.

"AAAGHH!" Arthur collapsed onto his knees, clutching his ruined, blackened wrist, weeping in agony on the floor.

Marcus stepped up behind Arthur, driving the butt of his tactical rifle into the side of Vance's jaw, knocking the traitorous billionaire out cold onto the wet floor.

The room fell into a quiet, heavy silence, broken only by the hum of the dying backup emergency lights and the sound of my sister's soft, ragged breathing in my arms.
