Chapter 7 - ARRIVAL IN ORLANDO

The flight to Orlando was smooth, silent, and completely uneventful. For two hours, Maya watched an animated film on her screen while eating warm chocolate chip cookies, her feet stretched out comfortably without touching the seat in front of her. Beside her, Leo slept through the entire journey, lulled by the gentle cabin pressure and the warmth of his carrier.
When the wheels touched down at Orlando International Airport at nine o'clock that evening, the cabin lights bathed the First Class section in soft blue illumination.
As we stepped off the plane into the warm, humid air of the jetway, a representative from the airline’s corporate office was waiting for us with a private transport cart.
"Mrs. Mercer?" the young man asked politely. "I'm David from Executive Services. Your sister is waiting for you in the arrival hall, but we’ve arranged for your luggage to be retrieved directly from the hold and escorted to your vehicle."
We rode through the terminal on the electric cart, bypassing the long lines at baggage claim. As we pulled up to the glass doors of the arrival terminal, I saw my sister, Sarah, standing near the curb, her eyes darting nervously across the crowd.
When she saw us on the official airport cart, surrounded by an escort, her jaw literally dropped.
"Evelyn!" Sarah screamed, running over as the cart stopped. "What on earth happened? I checked your flight status three hours ago and it said you diverted to Milwaukee because of a security issue! I was out of my mind with worry!"
I stepped off the cart, holding Leo securely, while Maya hopped down with her purple backpack and her stuffed captain bear.
"It's a long story, Sarah," I said, leaning in to give my sister a tight, tearful hug. "A very long story."
"It started with a lady who stole our seats," Maya said, her voice proud as she tapped the silver pilot wings pinned to her jacket. "And then I caught an international spy."
Sarah looked from Maya to me, then at the uniformed airport officer who was unloading our three large suitcases from the back of the transport vehicle.

"She's not joking, is she?" Sarah whispered, her eyes wide.
"Not even a little bit," I smiled, wrapping my arm around Maya’s shoulders. "Let's go home. I need to call David."
