Chapter 10 - The Lion's Dawn

Three weeks later.

The morning sun broke bright and golden over the Atlantic coast, driving away the autumn chill and painting the gardens of the Bellandi estate in shades of brilliant amber and soft gold.

The heavy steel gates at the entrance of the compound were open. The armed guards were still present, but their heavy tactical gear had been replaced by formal dark suits.

In the center courtyard, where the great marble fountain stood, little Emma was running through the grass, chasing a golden retriever puppy. Her laughter rang out across the stone arches—bright, loud, and completely free of fear.

Sitting on a teak bench near the rose garden was Isabella Bellandi. She was wearing a soft cream cashmere sweater, her silver hair neatly styled, a warm cup of tea resting in her hands. She looked relaxed, her pale cheeks returning to a healthy color under the crisp morning sun.

Roman walked out from the main terrace, dressed in a tailored dark suit, his left arm resting in a black silk sling.

Emma saw him and immediately stopped running. "Mr. Roman!"

She sprinted across the lawn, her tiny sneakers squeaking against the wet grass, and threw her arms around his legs.

Roman crouched down, using his good right arm to scoop her up into his lap.

"How is the dog, Emma?" he asked, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips.

"He's fast!" Emma giggled, holding up her worn stuffed rabbit. "Barnaby says he wants to run too!"

"Barnaby can run later," Roman said softly, setting her down gently on the grass. "Go show your grandmother the puppy."

Emma nodded enthusiastically and sprinted back toward Isabella.

Roman stood up slowly and walked over to the bench. He stood beside Isabella, looking out over the vast, peaceful estate that his family had ruled through fear and deception for thirty years.

"The Moretti accounts have been fully liquidated," Roman reported quietly. "The funds have been transferred into a private trust for Emma. She will never have to worry about this world again."

Isabella took a slow sip of her tea, looking up at him with deep affection.

"And you, Roman?" she asked. "What will you do with the Bellandi name?"

Roman pulled back his right sleeve, looking down at the heavy black tattoo of the lion stretching across his forearm.

"My father thought the lion meant power," Roman said softly. "He thought it meant tearing down anyone who stood in his way."

He lowered his sleeve, looking out at Emma laughing in the sunshine.

"He was wrong," Roman said, his voice firm, steady, and filled with unbroken strength. "The lion protects the pride. That's the only rule this family has now."

Isabella reached up, taking his hand in hers, her eyes shining with tears of quiet triumph.

For twelve years, the Bellandi estate had operated on rules built on blood, fear, and silence after midnight.

But as the golden sun climbed high into the clear morning sky, Roman knew that the darkness had finally lost its hold over his home.

The door was unlocked. The ghosts were laid to rest.

And the Bellandi family had finally come home.
