Chapter 5 - THE UNTOUCHABLE DOMINIC MASON

The rain continued to pour through the early hours of Thursday morning.

In the primary suite’s lavish bathroom, Megan sat on the edge of a marble vanity while Dr. Evans—a discreet private physician who had worked for the Mason family for over a decade—applied a small butterfly bandage to the clean cut on her lower lip.

"It's a shallow tear, Miss Foster," Dr. Evans said gently, packing his medical kit. "No stitches required. The swelling should drop by tomorrow afternoon. Just keep ice on it for twenty minutes at a time."

"Thank you, Doctor," Megan said softly, touching the bandage gingerly.

The doctor nodded, gave a polite bow toward Dominic, who sat in his wheelchair near the door, and quietly exited the suite.

The bedroom fell into a heavy, quiet stillness.

Dominic rolled his chair closer to the vanity. He reached into his jacket pocket and produced a small, ice-filled gel pack wrapped in a clean linen towel. He handed it to her.

"Hold this against your cheek," he instructed quietly.

Megan took the ice pack, pressing it gently against her swollen lip. She let out a small, weary sigh, leaning her head back against the mirror. "Nancy's going to lose her mind when she sees this tomorrow."

"Nancy will not say a word," Dominic stated firmly. "And as of tonight, your duties in this house are changing."

Megan looked up, her brow furrowing through the pain. "What do you mean?"

"You are no longer a cleaner, Megan," Dominic said, his dark eyes fixed on her face. "You will no longer scrub floors or polish windows. Starting tomorrow, you are my personal assistant."

Megan blinked, surprised. "I don't know anything about managing your business, Mr. Mason. I don't have a corporate degree. I barely finished my associate’s degree before Toby was born."

"I don't need a corporate degree," Dominic replied smoothly. "I have fifty executives with Ivy League diplomas who manage my real estate holdings. What I need is someone I can trust inside this house. Someone who doesn't look at me with fear, and someone who doesn't sell my secrets to men like Arthur Vance."

"I can't accept that," she argued softly, shaking her head. "It feels like... like you're giving me a handout because I got hurt tonight."

Dominic leaned forward, resting his forearms on his knees, bringing his face close to hers. "You saved my life tonight, Megan. Or at the very least, you prevented a messy situation from becoming far worse. In my world, loyalty is the rarest commodity in existence. When I find it, I pay for it."

He paused, his gaze dropping briefly to her lips before returning to her eyes. "Your salary will be three times what Nancy pays you. You and your son will move out of the carriage house and into the guest suite in the East Wing of the main mansion. It has three rooms, a private kitchen, and proper security."

Megan’s breath hitched. Three times her current pay meant she could clear her debts in two months. It meant Toby could have proper health insurance, better food, and a guaranteed future.

"Why are you doing this?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "You don't even like people around you."

"I don't like most people," Dominic corrected her softly. "I like you."

The honesty of his words hung in the air between them, heavy and undeniable.

For the first time since she had arrived at the Buckhead estate, Megan felt something shift beneath her feet. The boundaries between employer and employee, between a powerful mafia figure and a struggling mother, were blurring into something far more complex—and far more dangerous.

"What about Arthur Vance?" she asked, changing the subject to hide the sudden flutter in her chest. "The man who sent that intruder?"

Dominic’s expression hardened instantly, the warm tone disappearing as if it had never existed. "Vance made a catastrophic error in judgment tonight. He believed that because I am confined to this chair, I am vulnerable. He believed he could intimidate me inside my own home."

He looked toward the window, watching the rain hit the glass.

"Tomorrow morning, I am going downtown," Dominic said quietly. "I am going to hold a meeting with every major business partner in Fulton County. And by the time the sun sets tomorrow, Arthur Vance will no longer have a single asset left in the state of Georgia."

Megan looked at his profile—the strong, sharp jawline, the piercing dark eyes, the absolute, cold confidence of a man who ruled an empire through sheer willpower.

May you like

She realized then that Dominic Mason was indeed untouchable—not because he had stone walls and armed guards, but because inside his chest beat a heart that refused to yield to anyone or anything.

Except, perhaps, to the stubborn maid who was currently sitting beside him.
