Chapter 7 - The Masterpiece

For the next six days, the penthouse suite at the Lakeview Grand was transformed into a command center of absolute elegance.

Adrien didn't allow a single outside stylist or society handler into Emily’s presence. Instead, he brought in a team of four elite female artists from Tokyo and Milan—women who owed their entire careers to the Moretti family's cultural grants, and who treated Emily with genuine, quiet reverence.

They didn't discuss "contouring" her body to make her look thinner. They didn't speak in hushed, pitying tones about her waist size.

Instead, they spent hours studying her skin tone, her rich dark eyes, and the gorgeous, fluid way she moved.

On the evening of the Moretti Foundation Gala, the storm over Chicago had cleared, leaving behind a crisp, starry December night.

Inside the master dressing suite, Emily stood before the floor-to-ceiling mirror.

The midnight-blue silk gown fit her like a second skin. The hand-dyed fabric pooled around her feet in heavy, shimmering waves, catching the warm light of the room with every subtle breath she took. The off-the-shoulder neckline accented her broad, elegant collarbones, while the gathered silk at her waist swept gracefully across her full hips, celebrating her curves rather than hiding them.

Her dark hair was styled in a classic, voluminous updo, with soft tendrils framing her face. Around her neck hung a single, breathtaking piece of jewelry: the Star of Lombardy, a historical fifty-carat raw sapphire mounted in platinum, a Moretti family heirloom that hadn't been removed from the vault in forty years.

The double doors opened behind her.

Adrien stepped into the suite wearing a classic black velvet tuxedo jacket, tailor-made to broad-shoulder perfection, paired with a crisp white shirt and a silk bow tie.

He stopped the moment he saw her.

For a long, motionless ten seconds, the powerful mafia boss who commanded thousands of men across the Midwest simply stared at his wife, his throat working silently.

"Adrien?" Emily whispered nervously, smoothing her hands over the silk skirt. "Is it... is it too much?"

Adrien walked forward, his heavy leather shoes silent against the rug. He didn't speak until he was standing directly behind her, his large hands coming to rest securely on her hips, his chest pressing against her back.

He looked at their shared reflection in the glass.

He saw a towering, dark, formidable man holding a woman who looked like a goddess carved from marble and wrapped in night sky. She didn't look like she belonged in his shadow; she looked like the reason his empire existed.

"You are the most breathtaking thing I have ever seen in my life, Emily," Adrien said, his voice husky and rough with raw emotion.

Emily turned her head, looking up into his eyes through the mirror. The lingering trace of insecurity that had haunted her for months vanished, replaced by the quiet, radiant confidence of a woman who knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that she was utterly adored.

"Thank you, Adrien," she whispered, leaning her head back against his shoulder.

"Are you ready?" he asked, pressing his lips against her neck.

"I'm ready," she said clearly. "Let's go show Chicago who you married."
