Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

Three weeks later.

The private courtyard of our family estate in Beacon Hill was bathed in the warm, golden light of a late spring afternoon.

The manicured lawns were green, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, and the air carried the sweet scent of blooming jasmine. Two hundred and fifty of Boston’s most influential business leaders, magistrates, and international investors milled about the garden, holding champagne flutes and speaking in low, respectful tones.

It was supposed to be my wedding day.

Instead, it was something infinitely more powerful.

Standing on the raised stone terrace overlooking the courtyard, I wore a stunning, midnight-blue silk gown—sharp, elegant, and unapologetically commanding. No white tulle. No traditional veil. Just pure, unadulterated sovereignty.

Beside me, Aunt Beatrice sat comfortably in a gilded armchair, looking healthier and more radiant than she had in a decade. Nolan stood nearby, speaking quietly with the senior partners of our newly consolidated global holdings.

My phone vibrated in my clutch.

I pulled it out and glanced down at the screen. It was an automated notification from the federal penitentiary in upstate New York.

Inmate Transfer Completed: Derek Ashworth and Clara Vance assigned to maximum-security federal labor details.

No bail. No appeal. No way out.

I locked the screen, slipped the phone back into my bag, and took a slow, deep breath of the crisp spring air.

Twelve days ago, I had stood in Terminal 3 believing my life was over—shattered by a cheating fiancé, a traitorous best friend, and a world built on lies. I had expected to spend my life playing the dutiful wife in a gilded cage built by someone else.

Instead, I had discovered the fire within my own veins.

I raised my crystal flute of champagne toward the guests, catching my brother’s eye across the terrace. Nolan raised his glass back to me, a silent toast between two people who owned the board.

I wasn't the victim anymore.

I was the empire.
