Chapter 9 - Whispers in the Dark

Eighteen months after the crash.
The Moretti estate in the Hamptons was quiet, wrapped in the cool breeze of early summer. The grand estate, surrounded by rolling green lawns and high stone walls overlooking the Atlantic, had been completely renovated, clearing away every trace of the past.
Inside the oceanfront library, a warm breeze blew through the open French doors, carrying the scent of salt air and blooming jasmine.
Grace stood by the large wooden desk, reviewing international trade reports for our new logistics division in Europe. She wore an elegant navy silk dress, her hair pinned up gracefully, looking every bit the formidable executive she had become.

Grace set her glass down, stepping closer to me, resting her hands against the lapels of my dark suit jacket. "We did it together, Dominic."
"No," I corrected gently, sliding my arms around her waist, pulling her close. "You gave me a second chance at life, Grace. Every day since that room in St. Jude's has been a gift because of you."
She looked up into my eyes, her expression filled with an unshakeable, profound affection. "I remember standing in that hospital room, watching you lie there so still. I was terrified."
"And yet you stayed," I reminded her softly. "You locked the door."
"I would lock it a thousand times over," she whispered.

I leaned down, pressing my lips to hers in a slow, deep kiss that carried all the quiet reverence, gratitude, and fierce passion that had grown between us over two chaotic, life-changing years.
Outside, the sun began to set over the ocean, casting brilliant streaks of gold, crimson, and violet across the vast sky.
