Chapter 10 - The Legacy of Light

The sun began to set over the rolling green hills of the Blackwood estate, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of purple, gold, and deep crimson.
The grand dining hall was alive with light, laughter, and the soft melody of a string quartet playing in the balcony above.
Representatives from the city’s most powerful families, business leaders, and community figures were gathered around the thirty-foot mahogany table. They were not there to plan mob wars or arrange illegal strikes; they were there to celebrate the launch of the Eleanor Blackwood Foundation—a fifty-million-dollar charitable trust created by Victor and managed by Emma to fund children’s medical research across the nation.
Victor sat at the head of the table, sitting in his mother’s carved walnut chair for the very first time in twelve years.
He looked around the room.
He saw Lily laughing with the young daughters of a prominent shipping executive near the fireplace. He saw Marcus standing by the doors, vigilant, proud, and peaceful. He saw a team of well-trained staff moving through the room with grace and dignity.
And sitting directly at his right hand, wearing a breathtaking dark green evening gown that matched the orchids in the new greenhouse, was Emma Lawson.
Victor raised his crystal glass of vintage wine, tapping it gently with a silver spoon.
The dining hall fell completely silent. Every head turned toward the front of the room.
Victor stood up slowly. He looked up at the oil portrait of his mother hanging on the wall above him. Eleanor’s painted eyes seemed to shine in the warm light of the chandeliers, looking down on her son with absolute approval.
Victor lowered his eyes, looking at his guests, and finally resting his gaze on Emma.
“Twelve years ago,” Victor began, his deep voice filling the hall with a calm, undeniable power, “this house was plunged into darkness. We believed that by closing our doors, by hiding from the world, and by freezing our grief in stone, we were protecting ourselves.”
He reached down, taking Emma’s hand and bringing her smoothly to her feet beside him.
“We were wrong,” Victor continued, his eyes locked onto Emma’s. “Safety doesn't come from hiding in the dark. It comes from having the courage to shine a light into the shadowed corners—no matter how terrifying the truth might be.”
Victor lifted his glass high into the air.
“To my mother, Eleanor,” Victor declared. “And to Emma Lawson—the woman who had the courage to move a crooked chair, break the rules, and bring the light back to Blackwood Manor.”
“To Eleanor! To Emma!” the crowd roared in unison, lifting their glasses into the glittering light.
As the guests cheered and the music swelled once more throughout the grand mansion, Victor turned to Emma. He pulled her close, his strong arm wrapping gently around her waist, and lowered his lips to hers.

Beneath the grand portrait of Eleanor Blackwood, the dark mahogany table stood straight, the crystal sparkled like stars, and the chair that had once held a deadly secret now held the legacy of a new life—a life built on truth, light, and an unbreakable love that no shadow could ever touch again.
