Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

One year later.

The grand courtyard of the Costa estate was bathed in the warm, golden glow of a late summer sun.

Fresh white roses covered every marble pillar, and the soft melody of a string quartet echoed across the manicured lawns.

Over two hundred guests were gathered—not just syndicate leaders and business elites, but community leaders, staff from Sadie’s Place, and families whom our foundation had helped over the past year.

Sitting in the front row was Chloe, looking radiant, holding her healthy ten-month-old baby boy, Dominic Jr., in her arms.

Near the marble altar stood Dominic.

He wore an impeccably tailored black tuxedo, looking towering, handsome, and breathtakingly noble. His dark eyes were fixed entirely on the stone archway leading from the main terrace.

The music shifted into a majestic processional.

I stepped onto the white carpet covering the lawn.

I wore an exquisite gown of ivory silk and Belgian lace, trailing behind me, a delicate silver tiara resting on my styled dark hair. I held a simple bouquet of white gardenias and roses.

I walked down the aisle alone, my chin held high, my heart overflowing with a fierce, radiant joy.

I was no longer the invisible night-shift waitress crying over rent money.

I was a woman who had fought for her dignity, built a sanctuary for the helpless, and won the heart of the most powerful man in the city.

When I reached the altar, Dominic stepped forward, taking both of my hands in his. His large hands were trembling slightly—a rare sign of emotion from the iron-willed Don.

He brought my fingers to his lips, kissing them tenderly.

"You look breathtaking, my Queen," Dominic whispered softly, his dark eyes shining with tears.

"And you look like the man who changed my world," I murmured back, my smile radiant.

The priest stood before us, opening the ancient leather-bound book.

"We are gathered here today to unite Dominic Costa and Sadie Miller in holy matrimony," the priest declared to the quiet crowd. "A union forged in courage, protected by strength, and bound by everlasting love."

When it came time for the vows, Dominic took a breathtaking ring from his pocket—a flawless six-carat clear diamond flanked by deep red rubies.

He looked directly into my eyes, his deep voice echoing clearly across the sunlit courtyard.

"Sadie," Dominic said, his voice rich and steady. "A year ago, you stepped into the dark to save my family. You taught me that true strength isn't found in fear or violence, but in the courage to protect those who cannot protect themselves. I vow to honor you, to serve you, and to love you as my equal, my wife, and my sovereign queen for all the days of my life."

He slid the ring onto my finger.

I took a matching gold band from my pouch, looking up into the eyes of the man who had become my entire world.

"Dominic," I said, my voice ringing clear and strong. "You gave me a home when I was lost, a shield when I was threatened, and a love that redefined my entire life. I promise to stand beside you, to fight with you, and to love you unconditionally until my very last breath."

I slid the gold band onto his finger.

"By the authority vested in me," the priest announced with a warm smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."

Dominic pulled me into his arms, wrapping his strong hands around my waist, lifting me slightly off my feet as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate, life-changing kiss.

The courtyard erupted into ecstatic applause and cheers.

As Dominic lowered me back to the ground, keeping his arm firmly wrapped around my waist, we turned together to face our family, our friends, and our future.

I looked out over the sunlit gardens, feeling the warm summer breeze on my skin, and squeezed my husband's hand tightly.

May you like

I had stepped into the dark to save a stranger.

And I had found my home forever.
