Chapter 10 - The Real Promise

Six months later.
The sun was setting over Lake Geneva, painting the sky in brilliant shades of rose, gold, and deep purple.
The grand lawn of the Romano Estate was decorated with thousands of white roses, crystal arches, and delicate string lights suspended from the ancient oak trees. String quartet music drifted through the warm summer air as two hundred guests gathered on the lawn.
Sofia Romano sat in the front row, wearing an elegant champagne-colored lace gown, weeping happy tears into a silk handkerchief.
At the altar stood Matteo Romano, looking impossibly regal in a dark navy tailored tuxedo.
The music shifted into a majestic processional.
The double doors of the conservatory opened, and Emma Collins stepped out onto the aisle.
She was stunning. Her dress was a masterpiece of ivory lace and delicate pearl embroidery, flowing into a long, dramatic train that swept across the green grass. In her hands, she carried a bouquet of white peonies, and on her left hand sparkled the blue Empress Sapphire.
She walked down the aisle with her head held high, her eyes locked onto the man standing at the end of the path.
Matteo didn't take his eyes off her for a single second. The cold, ruthless CEO was gone; in his place stood a man looking at his entire world walking toward him.
When Emma reached the altar, Matteo took her hands into his, his broad thumb lightly caressing her knuckles.
The priest began the ceremony, reading through the traditional vows of devotion, honor, and protection.
When it came time for the exchange of rings, Matteo pulled a simple, elegant platinum band from his pocket. He looked into Emma’s shining eyes, a faint, loving smile playing on his lips.
“Emma,” Matteo spoke, his deep voice carrying across the quiet lawn. “Six months ago, you woke up in my bed by mistake. It was the greatest disaster of my life... and the only miracle I ever truly needed.”
The guests let out a soft, warm chuckle.
“I promise to honor you, to stand before you against every storm, to respect your brilliant mind, and to spend the rest of my life making sure you never regret picking up that shoe.”
Emma laughed through her tears, slipping the matching platinum band onto his finger.
“Matteo,” Emma said softly, her voice steady and clear. “I promise to love you, to challenge you, to stand beside you as your equal, and to always remind you that the best decisions of your life start when you stop trying to control everything.”
“By the authority vested in me,” the priest announced with a wide smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Matteo didn't wait. He stepped forward, wrapped his arms around Emma’s waist, and lifted her slightly off her feet as he brought his lips down to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sent the crowd into a roar of thunderous applause.
Sofia clapped frantically, dabbing her eyes with her handkerchief, while Marco and Gabriel raised their glasses in a toast from the front row.
When Matteo lowered Emma back to the ground, she looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with endless love and mischief.
“So, Mr. Romano,” Emma whispered, adjusting his lapel. “No contracts? No non-disclosure agreements?”
Matteo leaned down, brushing his lips against her ear.

“Only one rule, Mrs. Romano,” he whispered back warmly. “You are never leaving my bed again.”
And under the golden light of the setting sun, surrounded by the family they had built and the future they had won, Emma laughed and kissed her husband into forever.
