Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

Christmas Eve arrived in Manhattan six months later, wrapped in a blanket of soft, falling snow.

The grand dining room of the Bellandi mansion on East 64th Street was filled with warm gold light, the scent of fresh pine, and the joyful sound of laughter and clinking glasses.

A massive mahogany table in the center of the room was laden with food—roast meats, fresh breads, Italian pastries, and rich wines.

Seated around the table were thirty people. Not Capos or armed guards, but Grace’s sister, her family from Astoria, Priya and her agency staff, several local business owners supported by the Whitfield Foundation, and the senior members of the Bellandi organization who had proven their unyielding loyalty.

At the head of the table sat Marco.

Beside him sat Grace, looking majestic in a tailored emerald green velvet dress that comfortably cradled her nine-month pregnancy. She looked radiant, powerful, and utterly serene—a true queen surrounded by a real family.

Marco stood up, raising his glass of sparkling cider.

The entire room went silent, every face turning toward the head of the table with warmth and deep respect.

"Five years ago," Marco began, his deep voice filling the grand room with calm authority, "I sat in a restaurant on Christmas Eve, believing that power was measured by how many men feared my name, how many docks I controlled, and how much darkness I could command."

He turned his gaze toward Grace, looking down at her with an intensity of love that brought tears to her eyes.

"I was a fool," Marco said softly. "Power is not measured by fear. Power is measured by the light you build around the people you love. It is measured by the courage to face your own mistakes, destroy your own pride, and fight for the woman who saved your soul."

He raised his glass higher, looking out at the gathered guests.

"To my wife, Grace," Marco declared, his voice echoing with profound pride. "The sovereign of this house, the heart of this family, and the woman I will spend every day of my life proving I deserve."

"To Grace!" the entire room cheered in unison, raising their glasses high in the warm air.

Grace smiled, her heart full, her hand resting over her swelling stomach as her baby moved softly within her.

After dinner, as the guests gathered around the grand piano in the living room to sing traditional carols, Marco led Grace out onto the snow-dusted private balcony overlooking the city.

The cool night air was fresh, filled with the faint scent of woodsmoke and winter rain. Below them, the lights of Manhattan sparkled like millions of diamonds against the dark sky.

Marco draped a heavy fur coat over her shoulders, standing behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his large hands over her belly.

"Are you cold, my queen?" Marco whispered into her hair.

"No," Grace murmured, resting her head back against his shoulder, feeling the deep, steady rhythm of his heart beating against her back. "I am warm."

She reached down, her fingers intertwining with his gold wedding ring—a new, thick band he had forged himself, engraved with her maiden name alongside his own.

"You fought a long war to win me back, Marco," Grace whispered, turning her face to look up at his dark, handsome profile in the moonlight.

"It was the only war that ever mattered," Marco replied, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss against her lips.

As the snow fell gently around them, casting a serene white blanket over the roaring city below, the Mafia King and his Sovereign Queen stood together in the quiet night—forever bound, forever equal, and entirely unassailable in the love they had built from the ground up.
