Chapter 10 - The Melting Heart

That evening, a new temporary maid sent by the agency arrived at the estate gates to assist with the summer banquet preparations.

She was young, nervous, and stood shivering in the driveway, clutching her cleaning bag tightly as she looked up at the massive stone mansion.

The heavy front doors swung open.

Grace stepped out onto the stone porch, wearing a comfortable apron over her dress, holding a tray of warm tea and biscuits. Beside her stood Matteo, his arm wrapped around her waist, watching his wife with deep, adoring eyes.

And bounding across the lawn came Titan and Nero—two massive, muscled gray pitbulls, running at full speed toward the new girl.

The new maid let out a gasp of sheer panic, backing up against the fountain. “Oh God! Watch out!”

“Don't run, dear!” Grace called out with a warm, cheerful laugh, walking down the steps hand-in-hand with Matteo. “Just relax and let them decide!”

The two massive pitbulls hit the wet grass near the new girl’s feet—and instantly flopped flat onto their backs, exposing their bellies to the sky, letting out happy, dramatic sighs as they waited for belly scratches.

The new maid blinked in absolute shock, looking from the soft, sleeping pitbulls up to the chubby, smiling woman holding the master’s hand.

“They’re... they’re harmless!” the maid gasped.

Matteo looked down at Grace, his dark amber eyes filled with endless warmth, devotion, and love as he pulled her tight against his side.

“They weren't always,” Matteo whispered softly into Grace’s hair, kissing her cheek gently as the sun set over the estate. “Until a poor, chubby maid came along and melted everything in this house.”
