Chapter 10 - A NEW MORNING AT VALE HOUSE

At 6:30 AM, the sun began to rise over the hills of Blackridge, sending golden rays of light through the high glass windows of Vale House.

The night of horror had passed, leaving behind a profound, quiet peace.

Claire walked into the grand kitchen. The white marble countertops were spotless. The sink was dry and clean. The dark blood stain on her uniform sleeve was gone, replaced by a fresh, comfortable set of clothes.

She walked over to the large window overlooking the east gardens, holding a fresh cup of coffee in her hand. The birds were singing in the pine trees outside, and the morning air felt crisp and clean.

Footsteps sounded softly behind her.

Roman walked into the kitchen, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit and a white dress shirt, open at the collar. He looked every bit the powerful king of Blackridge, but his eyes were soft as they landed on her.

He walked up behind her, placing his hands gently on her waist. Claire leaned back against his broad chest, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heartbeat.

“How are you feeling?” Roman asked, resting his chin lightly against her shoulder.

“I feel... safe,” Claire said, turning her head slightly to look up at him. “For the first time in my life, Roman.”

Roman leaned down and pressed a soft, lingering kiss against her lips. The kiss was slow, deep, and filled with a quiet, fierce promise of protection and devotion. Claire closed her eyes, melting into his touch, her hand coming up to rest against his cheek.

When he pulled back, his dark eyes were burning with affection.

“Chef Daniel is gone,” Roman said quietly. “The house staff will need a new manager—someone who knows every inch of this estate, someone who sees everything, and someone I trust with my life.”

Claire smiled, a light laugh escaping her lips. “Are you offering me a promotion, Mr. Vale?”

“I’m offering you a partnership, Claire,” Roman corrected softly, his hand gently caressing her cheek. “You’re not my maid anymore. You’re the woman who stands beside me.”

Claire looked out at the sunlit gardens of Vale House, feeling the warmth of the morning light on her skin and the solid strength of the man holding her. The shadows of the past had been burned away in the fire, leaving only the promise of a new beginning.

“I accept,” Claire whispered, sliding her arms around his neck and pulling him down for another kiss as the sun filled the house with light.
