Chapter 10 - The Wedding at the Lake

Three months later.

The late autumn sun cast a long, golden glow across the private estate on Lake Michigan.

The grand marble staircase where I had once scrubbed steps in my uniform was now draped in thousands of white roses, eucalyptus leaves, and twinkling fairy lights.

A string quartet played softly near the fountain, filling the afternoon air with sweet, classical melodies.

Seated in the private gardens were two hundred guests—business leaders, city officials, international partners, and the entire household staff of the Moretti estate, who had been given front-row seats of honor by Luca’s personal decree.

Mrs. Carter sat near the front, wiping away happy tears with a lace handkerchief as she watched me step out onto the wraparound porch.

I wore a custom A-line gown of ivory silk with intricate lace detailing along the long sleeves and a sweeping cathedral train. My hair was crowned with a delicate silver tiara holding a sheer veil that flowed behind me like mist.

There was no hair covering my eye today.

My face was completely exposed to the sun, glowing with health, happiness, and an absolute, unshakeable confidence.

At the end of the white aisle, standing beneath an archway of white roses overlooking the blue waters of Lake Michigan, stood Luca Moretti.

He looked breathtaking in a black tuxedo, his dark eyes fixed entirely on me as I began my walk down the aisle. He didn't see the guests. He didn't see the press cameras stationed at the perimeter gates. He saw only me.

Dr. Harris—the doctor who had examined my face on the night of the engagement party and who had become a dear family friend—escorted me down the aisle, placing my hand gently into Luca’s waiting palm.

"Take care of her, Luca," Dr. Harris whispered warmly.

"With my life," Luca answered instantly.

Luca took my hand. His fingers were warm, steady, and strong as he squeezed mine. He leaned in, his voice a low, secret whisper meant only for me.

"You look like an angel, my love," he whispered.

"And you look like a man who finally got what he wanted," I teased gently, smiling up at him.

"I did," he murmured softly. "I got you."

The priest stepped forward, his voice echoing warmly over the quiet garden.

"We are gathered here today in the presence of God and these witnesses to join Luca Moretti and Olivia Hayes in holy matrimony..."

As the ceremony progressed, I looked out over the gathering.

I saw Daniel standing as Luca's best man, looking proud and vigilant. I saw Mrs. Carter smiling through her tears. I saw the faces of the staff who had once worked alongside me in the kitchen, now dressed in fine clothes, celebrating as our honored guests.

And then, it was time for our vows.

Luca took both of my hands in his. He didn't read from a card. He looked directly into my eyes, speaking from the depth of his soul.

"Olivia," Luca spoke, his voice clear and resonant. "A year ago, I lived in a world where everyone wanted something from me. I thought loyalty was a transaction, and trust was a liability. Then you came into my life. You showed me that true strength isn't found in fear or power—it is found in courage, honesty, and love. I promise to protect you, to honor you, and to love you through every storm and every sunrise for the rest of my days."

The priest turned to me. "Olivia, your vows."

I looked up at the man who had lifted me out of the shadows, who had fought for my dignity when no one else would, and who had given me a future beyond my wildest dreams.

"Luca," I said, my voice steady and filled with pure, unadulterated love. "When I first came to your house, I was afraid of the world. I thought my voice didn't matter. But you saw me. You listened when no one else would. You taught me that my past does not define my future, and that a bruised face can become a symbol of ultimate victory. I give you my heart, my loyalty, and my life, today and forever."

The priest smiled brightly, raising his hands over us.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Luca, you may kiss your bride."

Luca didn't wait a second.

He stepped forward, gathered me into his strong arms, and lifted me slightly as he brought his lips down onto mine in a deep, electric, and breathtaking kiss.

The entire garden erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and joyous celebration. Rose petals rained down around us, catching the golden afternoon light as they fell upon the white carpet.

Luca pulled back slightly, his dark eyes shining with pure happiness, his hands framing my face gently.

"Mrs. Moretti," he whispered against my lips, a triumphant smile breaking across his face.

May you like

"Mr. Moretti," I answered, resting my cheek against his hand, feeling the warm, solid weight of his wedding band pressing against my skin.

We turned toward our guests, holding hands tightly, and began our walk back down the aisle together—stepping forward into a bright, sunlit future built on truth, victory, and an everlasting love.
