Chapter 4 - The Offensive Begins

At 10:00 AM, the first phase of the operational plan was executed with flawless precision.
In the mahogany-row headquarters of Prescott Development Holdings in downtown Charlotte, Margaret Prescott was host to an exclusive morning reception. She was entertaining several prominent municipal officials, major corporate investors, and regional journalists to celebrate the upcoming groundbreaking of the $45 million downtown transit project.
She stood at the head of a long, polished oak boardroom table, wearing a tailored navy suit and her signature diamond earrings. She held a glass of sparkling water, offering a gracious smile to the city council members sitting around her.
"Our vision for Charlotte has always been one of progress, integrity, and community growth," Margaret announced smoothly, her voice echoing off the floor-to-ceiling glass windows overseeing the city skyline. "When Prescott Development takes on a project, we don't just build infrastructure; we build trust."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the entrance of the boardroom swung open.
Four uniformed Federal Marshals walked into the room, accompanied by two sharp-suited investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Behind them walked Captain Sarah Lin, holding a thick stack of blue-bound legal documents.
The conversations in the room instantly died. The city council members turned in shock, while journalists instinctively raised their smartphones to record the scene.
"Margaret Prescott?" the lead US Marshal asked, his voice booming through the quiet room.
Margaret lowered her glass, her expression hardening into a mask of pure fury. "How dare you interrupt a private corporate briefing! Do you have any idea who I am? Who authorized this intrusion?"
"I am Special Agent Richard Miller with the Federal Bureau of Investigation," the lead agent declared calmly, pulling a leather credential badge from his jacket pocket. "We are executing an emergency federal protection order issued by the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina."
Sarah Lin stepped forward, placing a thick stack of legal papers directly onto the polished oak table in front of Margaret.
"Mrs. Prescott," Sarah said, her voice clear and carrying across the silent room. "You, along with your sons Ethan Prescott and Brandon Prescott, have been formally served with a federal temporary restraining order. You are legally barred from coming within five hundred yards of Emily Hart, her residence, or any location where she receives medical care."
Margaret let out a sharp, incredulous laugh, looking around at the assembled city officials as if seeking support. "This is a absurd personal attack! My daughter-in-law is suffering from severe mental instability. This is a private family matter that—"
"Attached to page three of that court order," Sarah interrupted smoothly, her voice utterly devoid of emotion, "are the official forensic medical records from Mercy General Hospital, documented at 2:00 AM today. They include high-resolution photographic evidence of severe physical trauma, facial fractures, and restraint marks inflicted upon Emily Hart."
Sarah turned her head to face the journalists in the room, ensuring every word was clearly audible.
"Furthermore, the court has recognized credible allegations that members of the Prescott family unlawfully detained Ms. Hart against her will in a secure guest house, confiscated her personal communications devices, and used threats of political retaliation to prevent her from seeking emergency medical assistance."
Gasps echoed through the boardroom. Several city council members immediately stood up from their chairs, taking a collective step back from the main table, visibly eager to distance themselves from Margaret.
"This is slander!" Ethan Prescott shouted, standing up from his seat near the end of the table, his face flushed red with anger. "You can't bring this garbage into our corporate headquarters!"
"Mr. Ethan Prescott," Special Agent Miller said, turning his attention to Ethan. "You are also named in this order. If you take one step toward this attorney or attempt to contact the victim in any manner, directly or through third parties, you will be taken into federal custody immediately for witness tampering and obstruction of justice."
Ethan opened his mouth to argue, but Brandon quickly reached out and grabbed his brother's arm, pulling him back. Brandon’s eyes darted around the room, realizing with sudden, sickening clarity that every journalist in attendance was capturing the entire scene on video.
"Get these people out of here!" Margaret ordered, her voice trembling with a mixture of rage and panic. "Call Arthur Vance right now! Where is our legal team?"
"Arthur Vance won't be able to assist you with this matter, Mrs. Prescott," Sarah replied calmly, offering a small, ice-cold smile. "Because as we speak, the IRS Criminal Investigation Division is serving a federal search warrant at his law firm, as well as the corporate accounting offices of Prescott Development Holdings."
Margaret’s face turned deathly pale. The smug, untouchable matriarch who had condescendingly told me twelve hours ago that my military rank meant nothing was suddenly struggling to draw breath.
"What... what are you talking about?" Margaret stammered, her voice losing its polished composure.
"We have provided federal prosecutors with complete financial ledgers documenting the systematic diversion of over $8 million in municipal construction funds into offshore accounts in Nevis," Sarah explained, leaning forward slightly. "The grand jury has already been convened."
The room erupted into absolute chaos. City council members hastily packed their briefcases and rushed toward the exits, desperate to avoid being linked to the unfolding financial scandal. Journalists were already typing furiously on their phones, broadcasting live updates to local news outlets.
In less than ten minutes, the carefully constructed facade of power, prestige, and moral superiority that the Prescott family had built over three decades had been ripped apart on live television.
Standing in the control trailer parked two blocks away, watching the live security feed transmitted from inside the building, I took a quiet sip from my water bottle.
"Target phase one complete," Marcus reported from the seat beside me, monitoring three different financial streams on his monitor. "Prescott Development Holdings stock has dropped twelve percent in pre-market trading. The City Council has just called an emergency meeting to freeze all municipal contract disbursements."
"Good," I said, my voice completely steady. "Now initiate Phase Two."
"What is Phase Two, Colonel?" Marcus asked.
I looked at the primary monitor, where Ethan Prescott was aggressively arguing with his mother in the empty boardroom, both of them looking frantic and cornered.
"They thought they could isolate my daughter and make her feel utterly helpless," I said quietly. "Now, we isolate them. Strip away their bank accounts, freeze their credit lines, cancel their elite club memberships, and let them see how powerful they feel when they are stripped down to nothing."
"Executing Phase Two now," Marcus confirmed, hitting a red key on his keyboard.
Within seconds, automated federal asset preservation notices—authorized by the emergency court filing—were served to the primary banking institutions holding the Prescott family's assets. Joint accounts, corporate credit facilities, and personal lines of credit were systematically frozen pending the outcome of the federal fraud investigation.
