Chapter 7 - The Empire Strikes Back

New York City was draped in a thick, dreary fog when our private transport touched down at a quiet, private airstrip in northern New Jersey.

The Valenti family was not just a criminal organization; they were an institution. They controlled construction unions, shipping yards, financial firms, and political figures across the entire Eastern seaboard. Don Carmine Valenti operated out of a massive, heavily fortified estate in Long Island—a compound spanning fifty acres, guarded by a private army of over a hundred professional soldiers, equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance and military-grade defense systems.

Carmine knew I was coming. The liquidation of his Chicago operations had sent shockwaves through the national syndicate network. By midday, every major mob boss in the country knew that Alejandro Moretti had gone rogue, hunting down the patriarch of the Valenti bloodline.

Inside a hidden safehouse in Queens, Dom spread a detailed schematic of the Valenti compound across a large steel table.

“Carmine has turned his estate into an absolute fortress,” Dom explained, pointing to various strategic points on the blueprint. “He’s brought in fifty additional mercenaries from Europe. Infrared cameras, motion sensors, automatic turret emplacements along the perimeter walls. An armored assault on the front gate would be suicide, even for the Iron Guard.”

I stood over the blueprints, studying the structural layouts with absolute focus. I wasn't interested in a protracted siege. I was interested in total, unyielding destruction.

“How are his financial assets structured?” I asked, looking up at Dom.

“Sofia’s journal gave us the master encryption keys to Carmine’s offshore accounts,” Dom revealed, pulling up a secondary tablet. “Her records contained the access codes to his private holdings in the Cayman Islands, Zurich, and Panama. Over eight hundred million dollars in liquid capital.”

A cold, lethal smile spread across my face. Sofia had given me the ultimate weapon. She hadn't just documented his crimes; she had built a digital guillotine above his financial throat.

“Drain it,” I ordered coldly.

Dom stared at me, his eyes widening slightly. “All of it?”

“Every single cent,” I commanded. “Transfer two hundred million into untraceable trust funds for my four sons in Canada. Take fifty million to compensate the Iron Guard. The rest... liquidate it, crash the holding shell companies, and release the unencrypted evidence of Carmine’s federal bribery schemes to every major news outlet and federal prosecutor in New York.”

Dom’s fingers flew across the encrypted keyboard. “It will destroy the Valenti family’s protection network in less than thirty minutes. The federal authorities will issue emergency arrest warrants immediately.”

“Let them,” I said, pulling my tactical vest tight across my chest and checking the action on my assault rifle. “The feds can have what’s left of his money. I’m taking his life.”

Fifteen minutes later, inside the grand, marble-lined study of the Valenti estate in Long Island, Don Carmine Valenti was pouring himself a glass of eighty-year-old scotch when his chief financial officer burst into the room, his face green with panic.

“Don Carmine!” the officer screamed, dropping a stack of printed financial alerts onto the desk. “Our accounts! They’ve been wiped!”

Carmine set his glass down slowly, his thick eyebrows knitting together in rage. “What are you talking about? Wiped?”

“The Cayman accounts, Switzerland, Panama—everything!” the man rasped, trembling uncontrollably. “Over eight hundred million dollars has been liquidated and routed through thousands of untraceable crypto-nodes! And worse—the federal tax fraud documents and wiretap recordings were just leaked directly to the Southern District Attorney’s office! The FBI has just issued an emergency federal warrant for your arrest!”

Carmine’s hand shook as he reached for his phone, but before he could dial his primary lawyer, the heavy glass windows of his study shattered inward as a deafening explosion rocked the southern perimeter wall of the compound.

BOOM!

The entire mansion vibrated violently. Sirens began blaring across the estate grounds as panic erupted among Carmine’s guards.

Carmine sprang up from his desk, grabbing a heavy silver revolver from his drawer. “What was that?!”

His chief of security ran into the room, holding a tactical radio, his face covered in soot.

“Sir! Someone just blew the main electrical substation and breached the southern wall!” the security chief yelled over the rising chaos. “It’s Moretti! He’s here!”

Carmine’s eyes filled with a sudden, icy shock. He had expected an army, a fleet of tactical vehicles, a protracted siege. He had not expected a man who would drain his multi-million-dollar empire with a keyboard and breach his impenetrable fortress ten minutes later.

“Kill him!” Carmine screamed, his voice cracking with rage and fear. “I don't care how many men it takes! Bring me Alejandro Moretti’s head!”
