Chapter 10 - The Horizon of Willow Ridge

Six months later—June in the Berkshires.
The snow was completely gone, replaced by vibrant green slopes, blooming wildflowers, and a sparkling blue lake reflecting the summer sun.
On the manicured lawn overlooking the water, a simple wooden pavilion had been erected. Small white chairs were arranged in neat rows, occupied by a select group of fifty guests: house staff, security team members and their families, Dr. Aris, and Mary Lou, who had been flown in from Pennsylvania on Dante’s private jet.
Standing at the front of the pavilion, beneath a canopy of white roses and green vines, stood Dante. He wore a crisp, tailored navy suit, looking striking, handsome, and completely calm.
Holding his hand was eight-month-old Leo, sitting comfortably on his father’s hip, wearing a tiny white dress shirt and dark trousers, babbling happily as he waved his small hands at the flowers.
The acoustic guitar music shifted into a slow, beautiful melody.
Everyone stood up.
At the top of the stone path, framed by the summer trees, walked Clara.
She took Dante’s breath away. She wore a simple, breathtaking ivory silk gown that flowed gracefully around her figure. Her auburn hair was styled in soft waves adorned with small white blossoms, and her hazel eyes were locked onto Dante with a love so bright it lit up the entire valley.
She walked down the aisle alone, her head held high, no longer running, no longer hiding, walking proudly toward the life she had fought to claim.
When she reached the altar, Dante stepped forward, extending his free hand to guide her up the wooden steps.
“You are breathtaking,” Dante whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
“You look pretty good yourself, Mr. Moretti,” she whispered back, reaching out to gently tickle Leo under his chin. The baby let out a bright, bubbling laugh that made the gathered guests smile.
The local magistrate, a kindly elderly man from the nearby town, stepped forward, opening his book.
“Friends and family,” the magistrate began, his voice warm over the small speaker system. “We are gathered here today to witness the renewal of a bond that was tested by distance, proven by trial, and sealed by love.”
The vows were simple, stripped of corporate legalities and mob traditions.
When it came time for Dante to speak, he looked directly into Clara’s eyes, taking her right hand in his, while holding Leo securely against his chest.
“Clara,” Dante said, his voice carrying clearly across the quiet lake. “Seven months ago, I walked into a diner looking for the woman who had taken my heart. I found a queen who was protecting my son. You taught me that true power isn't about control or fear—it’s about having the courage to protect what matters most, even from yourself. I promise to spend the rest of my life building a world worthy of you and Leo. I am yours, completely, forever.”
Tears glistened in Clara’s hazel eyes as she smiled through her joy.
“Dante,” she said, her voice steady and clear. “I ran because I was afraid of the dark. But you showed me that you were willing to destroy your own dark to bring me into the light. You are my home, my strength, and my husband. I love you.”
“By the authority vested in me,” the magistrate smiled broadly, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dante, you may kiss your bride.”
Dante didn't hesitate. He pulled Clara close, wrapping his arm around her waist, and kissed her with a deep, passionate intensity that echoed through the valley.
The guests erupted into applause. Mary Lou wiped her eyes with a lace handkerchief, smiling broadly as she watched the waitress from Willow Creek kiss the man who had bought a town just to find her.
Dante pulled back slowly, resting his forehead against Clara’s, while Leo squeezed between them, his small arms wrapping around his father’s neck and his mother’s shoulder.

“We made it,” Clara whispered, looking at her husband and her son under the summer sun.
“We’re just getting started, Mrs. Moretti,” Dante smiled, holding his family tight as they turned together to face the bright, endless horizon.
