Chapter 10 - A Brand New Christmas

Ten months later.
It was Christmas Eve once again.
Inside the cozy, light-filled living room of the farmhouse in Boulder, a modest eight-foot fir tree stood near the French doors leading out to the snow-covered orchard. Simple wooden ornaments, soft warm lights, and handmade stars decorated the branches.
There were no grand silver displays. No ostentatious luxury. Just warm, glowing comfort.
Claire sat on a soft sheepskin rug on the floor, watching eleven-month-old Maya wobble across the room on her tiny, uncertain feet. Maya let out a delighted, musical laugh as she reached out, balancing herself against Claire's knees.
"Look at you go, big girl!" Sarah cheered from the kitchen, where she was roasting vegetables and preparing a holiday dinner.
Claire laughed, pulling Maya into her lap and tickling her soft tummy until the baby squealed with joy.
The front door chimed softly, and Dr. Aris Thorne—who had become a close family friend—walked in carrying a box of freshly baked cinnamon rolls and a bottle of sparkling apple cider.
"Merry Christmas, ladies!" Aris called out, kicking off her snow boots. "It smells amazing in here!"
"Merry Christmas, Aris!" Claire called back, standing up with Maya held securely in her arms.
Claire walked over to the large floor-to-ceiling window looking out over the quiet, snow-covered orchard. The stars were bright and sharp against the deep velvet Colorado sky.
Exactly one year ago, at 11:47 PM, she had sat alone in an empty house, watching her life crumble under the weight of betrayal and deceit. She had been terrified, heavily pregnant, and uncertain of how she would survive the storm.
Now, she stood in a home filled with warmth, genuine laughter, and absolute security.
She held her daughter close, feeling Maya's soft cheek rest against her neck. She looked down at her hands—free of cold diamond rings, but holding everything that truly mattered.

Claire smiled, whispering into the quiet beauty of the Christmas night:
"We made it, my sweet girl. We made it home."
