Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Horizon

Six months later.

The summer sun shone warmly over the manicured green lawns of the Mercer Island estate.

White tents were set up near the edge of the lake, decorated with fresh garden roses, hydrangeas, and golden ribbons. Fifty close friends, colleagues, and family members gathered on the stone terrace for a private celebration.

Sitting in a comfortable armchair near the front row was Diane Bennett.

She looked healthy, vibrant, her hands holding a small glass of lemonade, talking happily with Eleanor Vale, who sat beside her looking immensely satisfied with herself.

Standing near the rose arch overlooking the blue water was Adrian Vale.

He wore a tailored dark blue linen suit. No dark glasses. No secrets.

Standing beside him was Claire, wearing a simple, elegant ivory silk gown that caught the bright summer light.

Cass Voss—who had assisted with the security transition between their organizations—and Julian Croft stood near the entrance, raising a glass toward the couple.

The judge finished reading the vows—not a contract negotiated by attorneys, but real, true vows chosen by two people who had found each other through darkness.

“You may kiss your bride,” the judge announced with a warm smile.

Adrian turned to Claire.

He didn't hesitate. He took her face in his hands, his gray eyes shining with pure, unshielded love, and pulled her into a kiss that echoed across the quiet, sunny terrace.

The small crowd burst into warm, joyful applause.

Diane clapped happily, tears of joy in her eyes, while Eleanor raised her glass with a quiet, triumphant nod.

Adrian pulled back slightly, his hand holding Claire’s left hand, where a fresh band of diamonds now sat beside her gold ring.

“Can you see the future, Mr. Vale?” Claire teased softly, leaning her forehead against his chest.

May you like

Adrian looked out over the bright, clear waters of Lake Washington, then back down into the eyes of the woman who had saved his life.

“I see everything, Mrs. Vale,” Adrian whispered, pulling her close into his arms as the sun rose high over their unbroken horizon. “And it’s beautiful.”
