Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Execution

Thursday morning. 10:00 AM.

The executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Vale Meridian Tower in downtown Seattle offered a breathtaking view of the city skyline and the gray waters of Puget Sound.

Twenty-four board members sat around a thirty-foot conference table made of polished mahogany.

At the head of the table sat Harrison Vale, wearing an expensive gray suit, looking confident, expansive, and entirely in control.

Beside him sat Prudence Vance and her father, representing the logistics sector holdings.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Harrison announced, tapping his signet ring against his water glass. “Thank you for coming on such short notice. As you know, our chief executive, Adrian Vale, has suffered severe health setbacks over the past eighteen months. His recent... hasty marriage to an unqualified individual has further raised concerns regarding his executive stability.”

Harrison leaned forward, resting his hands on the table.

“Today, we will vote on Section Twelve of the corporate charter—the formal removal of a compromised executive officer and the appointment of an interim chairman.”

“Are you referring to me, Harrison?” a calm, deep voice spoke from the back of the room.

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Adrian Vale stepped into the room.

He wore a tailored dark suit, his dark hair immaculately styled.

He did not wear dark glasses.

He carried no cane.

He walked with a powerful, unhurried, razor-sharp stride straight down the center of the room, his slate-gray eyes locked directly onto Harrison’s face.

Beside him walked Claire, looking breathtaking in an ivory silk suit, her head held high with absolute, calm authority.

Behind them walked Julian Croft and four federal marshals carrying thick black leather binders.

The entire boardroom went dead silent.

Several board members gasped. Harrison stood up so quickly his leather chair rolled back against the glass wall, his face turning an instant, sickly shade of white.

“Adrian?” Harrison stammered, his hands trembling against the table. “Your... your eyes...”

“My eyes are fine, Harrison,” Adrian said smoothly, stopping at the foot of the conference table. “They’ve been fine for nine months.”

Prudence Vance turned pale as paper, clutching her father’s arm in shock.

Adrian rested his long hands on the back of a leather chair, looking down the length of the table at his uncle.

“For eighteen months,” Adrian announced, his voice carrying an absolute, terrifying weight that echoed off the high walls, “I allowed you to believe I was helpless. I allowed you to move your fraudulent accounts through our European subsidiaries. And I waited for you to make your final move.”

Julian Croft stepped forward, placing a thick stack of documents in front of every board member.

“These are the certified forensic audits of the Mount Rainier expedition eighteen months ago,” Julian announced clearly. “Along with the bank records showing Harrison Vale paid two million dollars to an offshore account registered to the two men who broke into Adrian’s residence on Mercer Island on Tuesday night.”

A loud shockwave of gasps swept through the boardroom.

“This is a lie!” Harrison screamed, pointing a shaking finger at Adrian. “This is a fabrication! He’s trying to steal the company!”

“The federal marshals outside have the arrest warrants, Harrison,” Adrian said flatly, his gray eyes showing no mercy. “You are charged with attempted murder, corporate espionage, and grand larceny.”

Two federal marshals walked forward, placing heavy steel handcuffs onto Harrison’s wrists.

Harrison struggled frantically as he was pulled away from the table, screaming obscenities as he was led out into the hallway.

Prudence Vance shrank back into her chair, tears spilling over her cheeks, completely destroyed by the sudden collapse of her family’s leverage.

Adrian turned to the remaining board members.

“The board meeting is now in session,” Adrian said calmly, pulling out the head chair at the table and sitting down.

He looked up at Claire, who stood beside him, holding out her hand to her.

Claire took his hand, sitting down in the chair right beside the chief executive’s seat—the seat of the co-owner of Vale Meridian.

“Let’s begin,” Adrian said.
