Chapter 9 - The Return to Chicago

Two months later.

The city of Chicago was blanketed in a fresh, pristine layer of winter snow.

At the grand reopening of the Graham Logistics Headquarters downtown, hundreds of prominent business leaders, city officials, and journalists gathered in the main atrium. The Rossy cartel had been completely dismantled, its leaders incarcerated, and Declan Graham’s enterprise had been officially transitioned into a legitimate, multi-billion-dollar international shipping empire.

Standing at the top of the grand marble staircase, dressed in an exquisite dark navy tuxedo, sat Declan in a sleek, custom-designed titanium wheelchair.

Beside him stood Narin.

She was utterly breathtaking. She wore an off-the-shoulder velvet gown the color of deep emerald, her dark hair styled in soft, elegant curls that framed her delicate features. Around her neck hung a simple, gorgeous diamond pendant—a gift from Declan on her birthday.

She no longer carried a dustpan or wore a soiled apron. She stood beside him as the newly appointed Vice-President of the Graham Charitable Foundation, managing millions of dollars dedicated to supporting struggling families and impoverished neighborhoods across the city.

Mrs. Gibson, dressed in a fine dress, stood near the bottom of the staircase, weeping tears of pure joy as she watched the young couple.

“Look at them,” Mrs. Gibson whispered to an old house guard standing beside her. “Three months ago, he threw a glass at her head.”

“And now,” the guard chuckled softly, “she rules the entire company.”

As the photographers’ flashes lit up the atrium, Declan turned his chair slightly toward Narin, taking her hand in his before the entire crowd.

“Are you nervous, Vice-President?” Declan murmured near her ear, a rare, handsome smile playing on his lips.

Narin looked down at the sea of powerful people looking up at them with respect and admiration, then back into Declan’s steel eyes.

“I saved you from an army of tactical assassins, Mr. Graham,” she replied with a teasing smile. “A room full of businessmen in suits doesn't frighten me.”

Declan let out a low, warm laugh, his hand pulling hers closer to his chest. “I suppose not.”
