Chapter 7 - The Master’s Hand

The news of Adrian Vitali’s miraculous recovery was kept strictly within the walls of the Lake Forest estate for another month.

During that time, Adrian underwent intense physical therapy in a private subterranean gymnasium beneath the house, recovering his full strength, speed, and agility. Nora spent every evening with him, assisting his exercises, standing beside him as he pushed his body past its limits.

Their bond grew deeper with every passing day, transcending the dark circumstances of their marriage and blooming into an intense, passionate love built on absolute trust and mutual respect.

In December, the final act of their plan fell into place.

The syndicate council—a committee of five powerful syndicate leaders who governed the distribution networks across Illinois—called a mandatory emergency meeting at the Grand Crystal Ballroom downtown to address the sudden collapse of the Barone territory.

The council members assumed Adrian Vitali would arrive in his wheelchair, weakened by the internal conflict, ready to be pressured into dividing the Barone shipping docks among the other families.

At 8:00 p.m., the heavy double doors of the Crystal Ballroom were pushed open by two armed Vitali guards.

The five syndicate bosses sat around a massive round poker table, cigars glowing in the dim light, sipping scotch. Among them was Frankie Moretti—the man who had insulted Nora at the wedding six months ago.

“Ah, Vitali arrives!” Frankie smirked, turning his chair around toward the entrance. “Let’s see how much territory the cripple is willing to hand over to keep the peace—”

Frankie’s voice died in his throat.

Walking through the entrance, dressed in a flawless tailored black three-piece suit, was Adrian Vitali. He walked with a powerful, commanding stride, his posture tall and imposing, his dark gray eyes radiating an absolute, terrifying authority.

Beside him, holding his arm with grace and elegance, was Nora Delaney—wearing an exquisite backless red silk gown, her diamond necklace sparkling under the chandeliers, her breathtaking, unblemished beauty mesmerizing every man in the room.

The entire ballroom went dead silent. The five syndicate bosses stood up so fast their chairs nearly toppled over, staring in absolute, paralyzed shock at the towering Don who was supposed to be paralyzed.

“Good evening, gentlemen,” Adrian’s deep baritone voice echoed powerfully through the massive room. “I believe you called a meeting to discuss my territory?”

Frankie Moretti’s jaw dropped so low his cigar fell onto the velvet carpet. “Vitali... you... you’re walking?!”

“I walk, I stand, and I execute those who cross me,” Adrian said smoothly, escorting Nora to a luxurious leather armchair at the head of the table and pulling it out for her like a true gentleman before taking his own seat beside her.

Nora sat with absolute grace, looking around the table of ruthless mob bosses with a calm, dangerous confidence that matched her husband’s. She caught Frankie Moretti’s terror-stricken gaze and gave him a slow, radiant smile—the very woman he had called 'ugly' six months ago.

Moretti looked as if he were about to vomit from sheer terror.

“Salvatore Barone’s territory was seized legally through financial liquidation,” Adrian informed the council, resting his hands flat on the table. “Every dock, every warehouse, and every shipping lane now belongs exclusively to the Vitali family. If any of you have an objection... you are welcome to step outside and discuss it with me directly.”

Not a single boss spoke. Not a single man dared to breathe heavily.

The image of Adrian standing tall, flanked by his breathtaking, fiercely intelligent wife, made it instantly clear to the entire underworld that the Vitali empire was not merely stable—it was utterly indestructible.

One by one, the five syndicate leaders bowed their heads in quiet, absolute submission.

“No objections, Don Vitali,” the eldest boss stammered out, raising his glass in a trembling salute. “The territory is yours.”

Adrian smiled—a calm, victorious smile. He turned to Nora, taking her hand in his and raising it to his lips, pressing a warm kiss to her knuckles in front of the entire underworld council.

“To the future of the Vitali empire,” Adrian toasted softly.

Nora looked into the eyes of the man who had saved her, transformed her, and loved her beyond measure, her heart overflowing with absolute joy.

“To our future,” Nora replied.
