Chapter 10 - The Unwritten Future

By autumn of 2027, the small, state-of-the-art neurological rehabilitation clinic on the north side of Chicago had opened its doors to its first twenty patients.
The clinic was funded through an independent medical endowment created by the Hale-Pascale Foundation—a non-profit organization established by Isabella and Margot to provide free advanced physical therapy to victims of spinal trauma and violent crime.
In the brightly lit, modern exercise wing overlooking Lake Michigan, Margot stood beside a young girl in leg braces, guiding her through her first assisted steps on a specialized parallel bar track.
"Shoulders over your hips before you shift," Margot instructed gently, her hands supporting the girl’s waist. "Not after."
Near the front entrance, the glass door clicked open.
Massimo walked in, wearing a casual leather jacket and jeans, holding two cups of fresh coffee from the café down the street. He walked with a smooth, powerful stride, showing no trace of the heavy trauma that had once locked him into a steel chair.
He stood by the observation glass, watching Margot work with her patient, his face filled with an enduring, quiet reverence.
When the session ended and the young girl was escorted out by her mother, laughing and waving goodbye, Margot wiped her hands on her white lab coat and walked over to the front counter where Massimo had set her coffee cup down.
"How was the foundation meeting?" Margot asked, taking a sip of the warm dark roast.
"Isabella approved the funding for the second pediatric therapy wing," Massimo reported, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind and pulling her back against his chest. "And Marco hired three more security guards for the clinic perimeter, just to make sure my wife is never interrupted during her research."
Margot turned inside his arms, placing her hands flat against his broad chest, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of his heart.
"Your wife?" she teased softly, raising an eyebrow. "The wedding isn't until October, Massimo."
"A minor administrative detail," he murmured, leaning down to kiss the tip of her nose. "You signed the contract three months ago, Dr. Hale. And as you told me when we first met—you don't leave jobs unfinished."
May you like
Margot laughed, reaching up to wrap her arms around his neck, pulling him down into a deep, beautiful kiss that filled the bright clinic room with the warmth of a promise fully kept.
Outside the tall glass windows, the blue waves of Lake Michigan rolled steadily against the shore under the golden autumn sun. The shadows of Blackwood Lane, the cold iron gates, the locked safe in the study, and the dark secrets of the past were gone forever—replaced by the unbreakable foundation of a future built on truth, recovery, and an absolute, unyielding love.
