Chapter 10 - The Queen’s Reign

One year later.
The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was decorated with thousands of fresh cream roses, glowing crystal chandeliers, and golden silk drapery.
It was the annual Industrial Leadership Awards—the most prestigious business event of the year.
The room was filled with five hundred executives, political figures, and international business leaders.
Sitting at the central head table was Edwin Fletcher, looking healthy, proud, and completely vibrant. Beside him sat his wife, chatting happily with several board members.
At the head of the table sat Julian Cross, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, a platinum wedding band gleaming on his left hand.
And standing at the podium on stage was Nadine Cross.
She wore a custom off-the-shoulder golden velvet gown that accentuated her full, gorgeous figure, her dark hair styled in elegant curls, her presence commanding the absolute attention of every person in the room.
She had just been awarded Industrial CEO of the Year after leading Fletcher-Cross Logistics to a historic three-hundred-percent growth cycle, transforming it into the largest sustainable packaging firm in North America.
The applause echoed through the vast ballroom, loud, genuine, and thunderous.
Nadine stood at the microphone, holding her heavy crystal trophy, looking out over the crowd.
"Three years ago," Nadine spoke, her voice calm, powerful, and filled with deep confidence, "someone told me that my value was defined by my family's debt, my body size, and my willingness to stay quiet."
The room fell dead silent, listening to every word.
"They thought that if they humiliated me enough, I would accept whatever crumbs of dignity they were willing to leave on the table," Nadine continued, a soft, beautiful smile touching her crimson lips. "They were wrong."
She looked directly at Julian sitting in the front row, his dark eyes locked onto hers with profound, endless love.
"Power isn't given to us by people who promise to protect us," Nadine said softly. "Power is what we claim when we decide that we are worth fighting for. To every person in this room who has ever been told they are too much, too quiet, or not enough: drop your veil, step out into the rain, and build your own empire."
The room erupted into a standing ovation.
Five hundred people stood on their feet, clapping, cheering, and honoring the woman who had conquered Manhattan high society on her own terms.
Nadine stepped off the stage, walking down the steps into the arms of Julian Cross.
Julian pulled her close, wrapping his broad arms around her waist, lifting her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss before the entire cheering room.
"You were magnificent, my Queen," Julian whispered against her lips as he set her down.

"I learned from the best, Mr. Cross," Nadine laughed softly, resting her hand over his heart.
Outside the grand windows of the Plaza Hotel, the city lights sparkled like diamonds under the clear night sky, illuminating a world that no longer belonged to weak men—a world ruled by a woman who had walked away from a trap and claimed her crown.
