Chapter 6 - The Storm on the Horizon

Morning arrived with a sharp, gray sunlight breaking over the icy expanse of Lake Michigan.
Inside the master bedroom of the penthouse, Cecilia woke to the sound of soft, steady breathing.
She opened her eyes to find herself wrapped in white linen sheets, her head resting on Dallas’s broad, tattooed chest. His heavy arm was wrapped securely around her waist, keeping her anchored against him. The terrifying CEO was fast asleep, his face relaxed for the first time since she had known him, his dark ink visible across his collarbone and shoulders.
Cecilia laid her hand over his chest, feeling the deep, steady rhythm of his heart beneath her palm.
Last night had been a revelation. Dallas had loved every inch of her with a fierce, reverent intensity that had erased every insecurity she had carried since childhood. He had traced every curve, kissed every inch of her soft skin, and reminded her until dawn that she belonged nowhere else but in his arms.
Dallas’s eyes fluttered open. His gray-blue gaze settled on her face, instantly sharpening into warm focus.
"Good morning," he rasped softly, his voice thick with sleep. He leaned down and kissed her nose, then her lips.
"Good morning," Cecilia smiled, her fingers tracing the dark ink of the eagle's wing on his shoulder. "What time is it?"
"Doesn't matter," Dallas murmured, pulling her tighter against him. "The world can wait."
Before she could answer, the encrypted phone on the nightstand gave a sharp, urgent double-buzz.
Dallas’s posture stiffened slightly. The CEO returned instantly. He reached over, grabbing the phone and tapping the screen.
"Speak," he commanded.
It was Francesca’s voice, coming through the speaker sharp and clear. "Dallas. Lorenzo moved faster than we thought. He filed an emergency injunction in the Cook County District Court an hour ago, claiming that Russo Meridian Logistics is holding contested assets belonging to his Miami holdings."
Dallas sat up in bed, the sheets falling to his waist. His expression hardened into stone. "On what grounds?"
"He produced a copy of the old debt contract from six years ago," Francesca replied, her tone cold and analytical. "He's claiming that the twelve million wire transfer was a loan, not a purchase, and that the original collateral—Cecilia Garcia's personal indemnification—remains active until an audit is conducted by his private legal team."
Cecilia sat up beside him, her face turning pale as she heard the speaker. "He's trying to use the court to force me into a deposition."
"He doesn't want a deposition," Dallas spat out, his eyes flashing with lethal fury. "He wants a court-ordered transport to bring her to a neutral holding office in Florida where his men can snatch her off the tarmac."
"We have two hours before the sheriff serves the preliminary summons at headquarters," Francesca warned. "If you aren't there to challenge it, the judge will grant the temporary freeze."
Dallas tossed the phone onto the bed. He swung his long legs over the side of the bed and stood up, his tall, muscular frame radiating immediate, deadly authority.
He turned to look at Cecilia. She was sitting in the middle of the large bed, the white sheet pulled up to her chest, looking small despite her newfound strength.
Dallas walked over to the bed, kneeling down so he was eye-level with her. He took her hands in his.
"Listen to me," Dallas said softly, his voice an iron promise. "Lorenzo thinks he can use a piece of paper from six years ago to take you from me. He thinks because your father was weak, you are weak."
Cecilia lifted her chin, her eyes flashing with a cold, clear fire that matched his own. "I am not weak, Dallas."
A proud, dark smile touched his lips. "I know you aren't. That’s why you're coming with me to court."
May you like
"To court?"
"We are going to walk into that courtroom together," Dallas rasped, his eyes burning into hers. "You aren't going to wear a gray suit. You aren't going to hide in the back. You are going to wear the most breathtaking outfit in this city, and we are going to tear Lorenzo Costa’s empire to pieces."
