Chapter 10 - THE DON’S BRIDE

Six months later, the Russo estate hosted the grandest event the city of Chicago had seen in a decade.
The lush rear gardens of the estate were transformed into a sea of white roses, crystal chandeliers hanging from elegant iron arches, and polished marble walkways. Hundreds of guests attended—influential political figures, business moguls, and high-ranking leaders from allied families across the country.
Security was absolute, but the atmosphere was one of celebration rather than fear.
Inside the luxurious master suite of the East Wing, Khloe stood before a full-length mirror, catching her breath. She wore a breathtaking white silk wedding gown with intricate lace sleeves and a long, cascading train. Her dark hair was styled in an elegant updo, adorned with tiny diamond pins.
She looked radiant, happy, and confident. She was no longer the exhausted, terrified girl carrying a dirty cleaning caddy. She was Khloe Bennett Russo—the bride of the most powerful Don in the region.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and Tommy stepped inside, wearing a handsome black tuxedo. He had grown taller, his face healthy and vibrant.
“Wow, Khloe,” Tommy said, his eyes wide with awe. “You look like a queen.”
Khloe turned around, a soft tear threatening to spill over her eyelashes. She walked over and adjusted his bowtie. “And you look like a very handsome young man.”
Tommy hugged her tightly. “Thank you, Khloe. For everything. For never giving up on me.”
“I’d do it a million times over, Tommy,” she whispered back.
The music began to swell outside—a majestic orchestral piece signaling the start of the ceremony.
Tommy held out his arm. “Ready to walk down the aisle?”
Khloe smiled brightly, slipping her arm through her brother’s. “More than ready.”
As Khloe stepped out onto the marble walkway leading through the gardens, a collective hush fell over the hundreds of guests. Heads turned, eyes wide with admiration as the Don’s bride glided toward the altar.
At the end of the aisle stood Victor Russo.
He wore a tailored black tuxedo, looking impeccably handsome. As his eyes locked onto Khloe, the fierce, unyielding mask he presented to the world melted away completely, replaced by pure, unadulterated adoration.
When Tommy handed Khloe’s hand over to Victor, the two men exchanged a silent, respectful nod.
Victor took Khloe’s hand, his large fingers closing securely around hers.
“You take my breath away,” Victor whispered, his slate-grey eyes shining with emotion.
“You look pretty good yourself, Don Russo,” Khloe teased softly with a wink.
The priest began the ceremony, speaking of strength, loyalty, and a love that overcomes even the darkest shadows. When the time came for vows, Victor looked directly into Khloe’s eyes, holding both her hands in his.
“Khloe,” Victor spoke, his voice carrying clearly across the quiet gardens. “I spent my whole life building walls, believing that coldness was my only defense. You walked through those walls without fear. You gave me a reason to fight, a reason to protect, and a reason to love. I swear to honor you, protect you, and stand by you for as long as I draw breath.”
Tears streamed freely down Khloe’s cheeks as she smiled at him. “Victor. You took me in when I was broken and had nowhere left to turn. You showed me strength, protection, and a tenderness no one else ever saw. I promise to stand beside you, love you, and be your home, forever.”
“By the power vested in me,” the priest announced with a warm smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Victor didn't hesitate. He pulled Khloe firmly into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet as he kissed her with deep, passionate devotion.
The gardens erupted into thunderous applause and cheers! Rose petals rained down over the couple as they turned to face their guests, holding hands tightly, their faces shining with triumphant joy.
Later that evening, as the grand reception echoed with music, laughter, and clinking glasses, Victor led Khloe away from the crowd toward the quiet balcony of the East Wing overlooking the estate.
The night air was soft and warm, filled with the scent of summer roses.
Khloe leaned her back against Victor’s broad chest as he wrapped his heavy arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder.
“What are you thinking about, Mrs. Russo?” Victor asked softly into her ear.
Khloe looked down at the glittering emerald ring on her finger, then out at the sprawling, warm estate lit up with festive lights.
“I was just thinking about that Tuesday night in December,” Khloe smiled gently, leaning her head back against his chest. “When I fell asleep in your bed.”
Victor chuckled—a low, rich sound that vibrated against her back.
“That was the worst breach of security in the history of this estate,” Victor remarked playfully.
Khloe turned in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck and looking up into his grey eyes. “And what is the rule now, Don Russo?”
May you like
Victor smiled, his dark eyes filled with endless love as he leaned down to kiss her soft lips.
“The rule,” Victor whispered against her lips, “is that you never leave my bed again.”
