Chapter 10 - THE EVERLASTING WARMTH

One year later.

Christmas Eve had returned to Long Island.

A soft, gentle snow was falling outside, dusting the forty acres of DeLuca House in a picturesque blanket of white. But unlike the violent storm of the previous year, the night air was calm, peaceful, and crisp.

Inside the grand ballroom, a magnificent twenty-foot Christmas tree stood glowing with thousands of warm, golden lights.

The mansion was filled with guests—local charity leaders, hospital directors, staff members, and close friends. Tonight was not a mafia networking event; it was the annual benefit gala for the Bennett Foundation, a charity established by Roman and Claire to support families burdened by predatory medical debt.

Claire stood near the fireplace, wearing a breathtaking custom emerald-green velvet gown that hugged her soft curves with exquisite elegance. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, diamond earrings catching the light, and on her left ring finger sparkled a stunning five-carat oval diamond engagement ring.

She was no longer the quiet maid who tried to make herself smaller.

She was Claire Bennett-DeLuca—a woman who stood tall, confident, and deeply loved.

Roman walked over to her, carrying two glasses of sparkling apple cider. He wore a crisp black tuxedo, looking impossibly handsome, his gaze fixed entirely on his fiancée.

"You look breathtaking, my love," Roman murmured, handing her a glass and slipping his arm around her waist, pulling her close against his side.

"Thank you," Claire smiled, leaning her head against his broad shoulder. "The gala raised over two million dollars tonight, Roman. We're going to clear the medical debts of over three hundred families this year."

"You did that, Claire," Roman said softly, kissing the top of her head. "Your vision. Your heart."

Through the crowd, they saw Lily laughing with Mrs. Patel near the dessert table, completely thriving in her new life. Frank was standing near the entrance, chatting happily with one of the new foundation directors. Everything was peaceful. Everything was right.

Roman took Claire’s hand, leading her away from the bustling ballroom, walking down the quiet service hall toward the rear glass terrace.

They stepped out onto the heated stone terrace, watching the snow fall gently over the south lawn.

Roman pulled Claire into his arms, wrapping his heavy wool coat around both of them, shielding her from the light chill.

"Do you remember this place?" Roman asked softly, looking out toward the dark silhouette of the carriage house in the distance.

Claire leaned back against his chest, feeling the steady, strong rhythm of his heartbeat.

"I remember," Claire whispered. "I used to think that night was the worst night of my life. The cold, the fear, the feeling of being completely forgotten."

Roman turned her around in his arms, looking down into her soft brown eyes with a love so fierce it took her breath away.

"And now?" Roman asked gently.

Claire reached up, cupping his strong jaw with her hands, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to his lips.

"Now I know it was the night my life truly began," Claire said softly. "Because out there in the cold, the man who was supposed to be incapable of love found me... and brought me home."

Roman smiled—a rare, brilliant, beautiful smile that belonged only to her.

"I will always find you, Claire," Roman promised, wrapping his arms tightly around her as the snow fell softly around them. "In every storm, in every dark place, I will always bring you home."

Under the glowing lights of the mansion, surrounded by the quiet beauty of the winter night, the mafia boss and his bride stood together in the everlasting warmth of a love that had defied the storm.
