Chapter 9 - The Sovereign Protection

Damon acted with instantaneous, terrifying precision.
Before the hitmen could raise their weapons, Damon grabbed me by the waist, lifted me off my feet, and threw his heavy body over mine, rolling us behind the thick, reinforced steel frame of his mahogany executive desk!
RAT-AT-AT-AT-AT!
Submachine gun fire ripped through the room, shattering two million dollars worth of glass art, cutting down the leather sofas, and blasting holes into the drywall!
Damon pulled a heavy black custom pistol from a hidden holster beneath his desk, flicked off the safety, and looked at me.
His face was dead calm. No fear. No hesitation.
"Stay behind this desk, Maya," Damon commanded, his voice dropping into a thrilling, absolute register. "Do not move until I tell you."
"Damon, be careful!" I gasped, clutching his arm tightly.
Damon offered a dark, lethal smirk. "I own this building, sweetheart. They just walked into a meat grinder."
Damon pressed a button on the underside of his desk.
Instantly, thick bulletproof steel shutters slammed down over the entire glass wall of the penthouse, sealing the room into an impenetrable fortress! At the same time, the main lights cut out, plunging the room into total darkness, illuminated only by the red emergency backup lights!
Grant's men panicked in the dark. "What the hell?! Where is he?!"
Damon didn't answer. He moved through the shadows like a panther.
BANG! BANG!
A Jersey hitman dropped to the floor with a heavy thud!
BANG! BANG!
A second hitman screamed as Damon tackled him through the smoke, disarming him in two seconds and snapping his wrist with a sickening crack!
The third hitman fired blindly into the dark, but Damon stepped out from behind a marble pillar, firing two precise shots into his chest.
In less than forty-five seconds, three professional Jersey hitmen were completely neutralized.
Grant stood alone near the shattered elevator doors, shaking violently, his automatic pistol waving wildly in the air as red emergency light reflected off his sweaty face.
"Vance!" Grant screamed, his voice cracking with pure terror. "Where are you, you coward?!"
Damon stepped out from the shadows directly behind Grant.
May you like
He didn't fire his weapon.
Damon grabbed Grant's gun arm, twisting it backward until the weapon dropped to the floor. Then, he wrapped his massive hand around Grant's throat, lifting the coward three feet off the ground and slamming him against the steel elevator wall!
