Chapter 10 - The Harvest of Tomorrow

Spring arrived in the Veroa Valley with a sudden, joyful burst of life.

The snow melted from the rolling hills, giving way to rich, dark earth and bright green pastures. The cows returned to the fields, their bells chiming softly in the morning mist, while the construction crew west of town completed the final exterior paneling on the Morgan Logistics Center.

On a warm Saturday in early May, the town of Veroa gathered at the county church on the hill for the wedding of Megan Turner and Peter Morgan.

It was not a flashy corporate affair. It was a warm, vibrant community celebration.

Megan wore a simple, sweeping white lace gown with a crown of fresh wild daisies in her hair, looking radiant as she walked down the aisle on the arm of her father, Arthur, who walked slowly but proudly on his wooden cane, his eyes beaming with happiness.

Peter stood at the altar in a dark navy suit, his face lit up with a breathtaking smile as he watched his bride walk toward him.

When they exchanged their vows before the minister, their voices were strong, clear, and filled with the quiet certainty of two people whose love had been tested by time and proven unbreakable.

After the ceremony, the entire town gathered at the newly completed ridge house west of town—a stunning timber-and-stone home Peter had built on the high knoll overlooking the valley, surrounded by ancient white oaks.

Tables were set out on the wide wooden deck, overlooking the rolling green fields of the Turner farm in the distance and the bustling logistics center down in the valley.

Guests dined on fresh local bread, spring roast vegetables, grilled trout from the creek, and generous platters of eighteen-month aged Turner cheddar.

Even Michael Miller attended briefly, bringing a beautiful gift basket from his supermarket and offering his genuine congratulations to the newlyweds before slipping away quietly.

As the sun began to set behind the western hills, painting the sky in glorious shades of pink and orange, Peter took Megan’s hand, leading her to the edge of the high deck.

They stood together, looking out over their kingdom—the farm that had been saved, the community that had been rebuilt, and the wide, open future stretching out before them like a golden road under the evening sky.

"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Morgan?" Peter whispered softly, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder.

Megan smiled, leaning back against his chest, her hand resting over his on her waist, the gold wedding band gleaming in the twilight.

"I was thinking about the harvest fair," she said softly, turning her head to look into his dark blue eyes. "I was thinking about how terrified I was when Michael’s wife started laughing at me."

Peter kissed her cheek gently. "And now?"

Megan looked out over the valley, hearing the chiming of the cowbells in the distant pasture, feeling the strong, steady beat of her husband’s heart against her back, and feeling a deep, profound peace fill every corner of her soul.

"Now," Megan smiled softly, her eyes shining with complete happiness, "I know that some harvests take twenty-one years to grow... but they’re the sweetest ones you’ll ever taste."

Peter smiled, pulling her closer as the stars began to appear above the valley, lighting up the home they had built together on the solid rock of love, integrity, and home.
