Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

An hour later, Julian’s armored convoy pulled up to the grand stone entrance of the Anderson estate. The massive iron gates were open, guarded by state troopers who had been dispatched to handle the mounting crowd of reporters gathered along the road.

Maxwell Anderson stood in his grand living room, surrounded by his high-priced legal team and a terrified Jessica Crawford, who was desperately trying to fix her hair in a mirror.

The heavy double doors burst open. Julian Vance walked in, his presence commanding absolute authority. Standing right beside him, dressed in an elegant charcoal trench coat with her hair flowing naturally down her shoulders, was Elena Vance.

Maxwell looked at her, his throat completely dry. Without her apron, dressed in clothes fit for her true status, she looked magnificent—a queen standing among ruins.

"Mr. Vance," Maxwell stammered, stepping forward with his hands raised in a gesture of peace. "Please, let us discuss this like civilized men. There has been a huge misunderstanding—"

"Silence," Julian commanded, his voice cold enough to freeze water. He didn't even look at Maxwell; he turned to his chief legal counsel. "Read the notice."

The attorney stepped forward, pulling a legal document from his briefcase. "Mr. Anderson, as of nine o'clock this morning, Vance Global Entertainment has acquired eighty-five percent of the primary debt bonds issued for your latest commercial real estate development in downtown Manhattan. Furthermore, we have initiated foreclosure proceedings against the Anderson estate due to a breach of moral conduct clauses embedded in your municipal loan agreements."

Maxwell gasped, turning to his lawyers. "Can they do that?!"

His chief lawyer looked down, sweating profusely. "They... they own your debt, Maxwell. They own everything."

Jessica stepped forward, her face twisted in desperation. "This is ridiculous! She was just a maid! She spilled champagne on my dress!"

Elena looked at Jessica, her green eyes cool and unimpressed. "The dress was polyester blend, Jessica. And it cost eight hundred dollars, not eight thousand. I know, because I washed your laundry."

Jessica turned pale, stepping back in utter humiliation.

Elena then turned her gaze to Maxwell, who was trembling where he stood. "You thought you could humiliate me because you believed I was powerless," she said softly. "You thought my lack of wealth gave you the right to treat me like a toy for your entertainment."

"Elena... please," Maxwell begged, falling to his knees before her, all his arrogance completely shattered. "I was wrong! I will marry you! I will honor the bet right now! We can announce it to the press—it will fix everything!"

Elena looked down at him with quiet disgust.

"I told you last night, Mr. Anderson," Elena said, her voice resonant and final. "You are no gentleman. And I would rather play my music in an empty street than spend a single second as the mistress of your hollow world."
