Chapter 9 - The Fortress of Vows

Six months later.
The oceanfront gardens of the Castellano estate were transformed into a paradise of white orchids, navy velvet banners, and glowing iron lanterns.
Three hundred guests—including state governors, foreign dignitaries, international architects, and the entire high-ranking council of the Castellano syndicate—filled the white chairs set upon the lawn overlooking the ocean.
At the end of the aisle stood Julian Castellano.
He looked extraordinarily handsome in a bespoke dark navy tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, his hands clasped in front of him, his dark eyes fixed with laser intensity on the garden archway.
The orchestra began to play a powerful, sweeping arrangement of cello and piano.
The crowd stood up in unison.
Penelope stepped into the sunlight.
Gasps of pure admiration echoed through the garden.
She was an absolute vision. She wore a custom haute-couture wedding gown of heavy ivory satin that celebrated every breathtaking curve of her body. The off-the-shoulder neckline highlighted her collarbones, the fitted waist emphasized her lush hourglass frame, and a massive fifteen-foot silk train swept over the white rose petals scattered along the aisle. A delicate diamond tiara rested in her dark hair, anchoring a sheer lace veil that fluttered in the ocean breeze.
She walked down the aisle with total, supreme confidence—a queen walking toward her king.
When she reached the altar, Julian stepped down to take her hand. His hands were trembling slightly—a sight that made Marco wipe a tear from his eye in the front row.
“You are my dream, Penelope,” Julian whispered, lifting her hand to kiss her knuckles.
“And you are my fortress,” she replied softly, her eyes shining with tears of joy.
The priest spoke the ancient words of binding, his voice echoing across the ocean cliffs.
“Do you, Julian Castellano, take Penelope Hayes to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love, honor, and protect, in peace and in war, for as long as you both shall live?”
Julian looked directly into Penelope’s eyes, his grip on her hand unshakeable.
“I do,” Julian said, his voice deep, absolute, and echoing like thunder.
“And do you, Penelope Hayes, take Julian Castellano to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love, honor, and protect, in peace and in war, for as long as you both shall live?”
Penelope looked into the face of the man who had given her a kingdom, a firm, and a love deeper than the ocean beside them.
“I do,” Penelope said clearly and proudly.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the priest announced. “Julian, you may kiss your bride.”
Julian pulled Penelope into his arms, dipping her dramatically back over his arm as his mouth claimed hers in a deep, passionate, breathtaking kiss that made the entire crowd erupt into wild applause and cheers.
