Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Horizon

One year later.

The high, clear blue skies above Oakhaven Palace were filled with the roaring flyover of twelve imperial jet fighters, leaving trails of crimson and gold smoke across the clouds.

Down on the grand marble balcony overlooking the central plaza of the capital city, over one hundred thousand citizens had gathered in a sea of waving flags, cheering, singing national anthems, and celebrating a historic milestone.

It was the Day of Sovereign Transition.

Emperor Alexander Vale, now seventy-eight years old, had officially announced his retirement from executive state duties, transitioning into the ceremonial role of Emperor Emeritus to enjoy his remaining years in quiet comfort.

Standing at the front of the balcony, dressed in a sweeping dress of pure white silk, embroidered with golden oak leaves around the collar and sleeves, was Crown Princess Clara.

Beside me stood Prince Friedrich—now my official fiancé, following a romantic, respectful proposal on the coastal cliffs of Oakhaven six months prior. Friedrich held my hand firmly, offering a warm, supportive smile as the crowd cheered below.

Master Thomas stepped forward, carrying a purple velvet cushion bearing the ancient, solid-gold Sovereign Crown of Valeria.

Emperor Alexander stepped up beside me, his hands steady, his face glowing with immense, fatherly love.

He lifted the heavy gold crown from the cushion.

The crowd below went completely silent, holding their breath.

Alexander placed the Sovereign Crown gently, perfectly onto my head.

“I present to you,” Alexander announced, his deep voice amplified across the entire capital, “Her Imperial Majesty, Sovereign Queen Clara of Valeria!”

The city erupted into a deafening, thunderous roar of pure joy. Cannons boomed from the fortress, church bells chimed across the kingdom, and thousands of golden ribbons rained down from the sky.

I stepped up to the stone balustrade of the balcony, looking out over my people, my kingdom, and my home.

I looked at the sparkling blue ocean stretching out toward the horizon—toward a world where I had once walked as a quiet, heartbroken girl named Claire Bennett carrying coffee down hospital hallways.

I reached up, touching the cold, smooth gold of the Sovereign Crown resting securely upon my head.

I was no longer hiding. I was no longer seeking approval from men who measured human worth by balance sheets and room invitations. I had found my true strength, my true purpose, and my true place in the world.

I raised my hand to my people, smiling brightly under the warm European sun, ready to lead my nation into a brilliant, unshakeable future.

(The End)
