Chapter 6 - The Fall of Vextor Dynamics

The emergency board meeting of Vextor Dynamics was called for 10:00 AM on a Tuesday. Christopher flew back to San Diego specifically for it, looking like a man who hadn't slept in a week. His tailored suit hung loosely on his frame, his eyes were bloodshot, and the trademark smugness that usually defined his face had been replaced by a frantic, hollow panic.

I was already sitting at the head of the boardroom table when he walked in.

He froze in the doorway, staring at me as if he had seen a ghost. The seven board members, mostly older men who had always respected my financial acumen more than Christopher’s sales pitches, sat silently around the table.

“What is she doing here?” Christopher demanded, his voice cracking. “Victoria has no standing in this company anymore. Security!”

“Sit down, Christopher,” Arthur Sterling, the oldest board member, said firmly. “Victoria is here as our majority shareholder.”

Christopher’s jaw dropped. “Majority? That’s impossible. I hold the controlling interest!”

I slid a copy of the finalized asset transfer across the table.

“You defaulted on the bridge loan yesterday at 5:00 PM, Christopher. As per the terms of our divorce settlement, which your lawyers failed to protect you against because you ordered them to expedite the process, twenty percent of your voting shares defaulted to my holding company. I now own sixty percent of Vextor.”

He picked up the paper, his hands trembling violently. His eyes darted across the legalese, realizing exactly how thoroughly he had been dismantled.

“You can’t do this,” he whispered, looking up at me. “I built this company.”

“I saved this company,” I corrected, my voice cold and steady. “You played CEO while I managed the margins. And right now, the margins say that your personal scandals are a liability. The board has voted unanimously. You are being removed as CEO, effective immediately.”

“You’re firing me from my own company?” Christopher shouted, slamming his hands on the table. “You vindictive bitch! This is because of Michelle! Because I left you!”

“I’m firing you because you’re incompetent,” I replied calmly, leaning back in my leather chair. “But since you brought up Michelle... how are the twins? I hear Jonathan’s genes are very strong.”

The board members shifted uncomfortably, but kept their eyes down. They already knew. Evelyn had made sure the circles that mattered were quietly informed of Christopher’s humiliation.

Christopher stared at me, his chest heaving, his face a portrait of utter defeat. The illusion of his perfect life, his perfect family, and his impenetrable success had shattered into a million pieces.

“You set this all up,” he gasped, realization dawning in his eyes. “You knew about the shares. You knew about my mother.”

“I only knew that liars eventually trip over their own lies,” I said. “Pack your office, Christopher. Security will escort you out in thirty minutes.”
