Chapter 10 - The Sterling Legacy

One year later.
The sun was shining brightly over the rolling hills of the Napa Valley.
Where Corrine’s twenty-five-million-dollar private estate once stood, a beautiful, sprawling new campus of white stone buildings, glass courtyard walkways, and lush flower gardens now sat against the green vineyards.
Above the grand stone archway at the main entrance, large bronze letters gleamed under the afternoon sun:
THE ALORA STERLING HEALING CENTER AND RECOVERY RESIDENCE.
Today was the official opening ceremony.
Over two hundred guests—leading medical professionals, state officials, community leaders, and former domestic violence victims who had been helped by Alora’s foundation—were gathered in the grand outdoor amphitheater.
On the main stage, Alora stood behind the wooden podium, wearing an elegant ivory dress, her hair flowing softly down her shoulders. She looked healthy, confident, and radiant—a far cry from the terrified, bruised woman who had been trapped on the floor of my bedroom eighteen months ago.
Beside the stage, I sat holding our fourteen-month-old daughter, Auria, who was giggling happily in her soft yellow sun hat, clutching a small plush bear in her hands.
Alora leaned toward the microphone, her voice echoing warm, clear, and powerful across the vineyard hills.
"When I was at my lowest, dark hour," Alora spoke into the microphone, her eyes locking onto mine with deep, eternal love, "I thought that cruelty and greed had the power to destroy everything good in this world. I thought that power belonged to those who screamed the loudest, who used violence to take what wasn't theirs."
The audience sat in complete, respectful silence.
"But I learned that true power doesn't come from cruelty," Alora continued, her voice rising with strength. "True power comes from love, from justice, and from the unwavering resolve of those who stand up to protect the people they love. This center was built from the ruins of greed. It was funded by taking back what was stolen and using it to rebuild broken lives."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, standing up to cheer for her.
Alora smiled brightly, stepping down from the podium as state officials cut the thick red ribbon across the main entrance, officially opening the facility to the public.
I stood up, carrying Auria in my arm, and walked toward my wife as the crowd surrounded her to offer congratulations.
Alora stepped away from the crowd, wrapping her arm around my waist, leaning her head against my chest as we looked out over the sprawling, beautiful campus.
"You built something amazing, my love," I whispered, kissing her hair.
"We built it, Thane," she corrected me softly, looking up into my eyes. "Together."
Auria reached out her tiny hand, grabbing my suit lapel, letting out a bright, happy babble as a gentle breeze blew through the Napa vineyards, carrying the fresh scent of blooming jasmine and wild lavender.
The dark nightmare of Ocean View Drive was long gone, buried beneath the weight of justice and the unyielding strength of our love.
