Chapter 5 - The Public Execution

By 8:00 AM, the story had broken.

Despite Marcus Vance’s strict lock-down on the hospital floor, news of the 2:00 AM police raid at 4500 Ocean View Drive leaked to the media. A neighbor had captured high-definition video of Corrine and Sloan Sterling being dragged out of the oceanfront mansion in handcuffs by SWAT officers, screaming obscenities as they were loaded into police cruisers.

By 9:00 AM, every major financial and news network across the country had picked up the story:

"STERLING GLOBAL HEIRS ARRESTED IN DRAMATIC 2 AM HOME INVASION."

"BARRICADED IN OCEANVIEW ESTATE: MOTHER AND SISTER OF BILLIONAIRE THANE STERLING CHARGED WITH FELONY ASSAULT AND GRAND LARCENY."

"LEAKED POLICE REPORTS REVEAL PREMEDITATED ATTACK ON PREGNANT WIFE OF TECH TITAN."

In the executive boardroom on the fiftieth floor of the Sterling Global Tower in downtown Los Angeles, the emergency board meeting was in full swing. Twenty senior board members, major institutional shareholders, and PR representatives were sitting around the massive oval glass table, their faces pale, their tablet screens buzzing non-stop with media inquiries.

At the head of the table sat Donald Hayes—a fifty-eight-year-old major shareholder and former ally of my late father. Donald was known for his conservative corporate views and his deep, secret financial ties to Corrine Sterling, who had used her social influence to secure him a seat on the board four years ago.

"This is an absolute catastrophe!" Donald shouted, slamming his palm against the glass table. "The market opened twenty minutes ago, and Sterling Global stock has already dropped four point two percent! The media is painting our founder's family as violent psychopathy criminals! Thane Sterling needs to step down as CEO immediately until this personal mess is resolved!"

"I strongly advise against making emotional statements, Donald," Marcus Vance said calmly from his seat across the table, sipping his black coffee.

"Emotional?!" Donald sneered, his face red with indignation. "Corrine Sterling called me from the detention center an hour ago! She told me Thane staged the entire incident! He had a domestic dispute with his wife, got violent, and framed his elderly mother and sister to cut them out of the family trust! He is abusing his power, and we cannot let him drag this corporation into his personal vendetta!"

Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom clicked open.

The room fell dead silent.

I walked into the boardroom. I was wearing a bespoke three-piece charcoal suit, a dark red silk tie, and crisp white shirt. My hair was neatly combed, my posture commanding, my face an unreadable mask of absolute power. Behind me were two junior associates carrying thick leather binders.

Donald froze, his mouth half-open.

I walked slowly to the head of the table, taking my seat at the center chair. I didn't say a word for ten seconds. I simply let my cold, sharp eyes sweep across every single board member until no one dared make eye contact.

"Good morning, gentlemen," I said, my voice smooth, quiet, and dominating. "I hear there are concerns regarding my leadership."

Donald cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure, pulling his silk tie tight. "Thane... as a board, we have a fiduciary duty to protect shareholder value. This scandal with your mother and sister—"

"My mother and sister are currently sitting in the Lake County High-Security Detention Facility," I interrupted flatly. "They are facing twenty-four felony counts including First-Degree Burglary, Attempted Grand Larceny, and Felony Assault on my pregnant wife."

Donald sneered, waving his hand dismissively. "That is your side of the story, Thane! Corrine claims you framed her! She claims you recorded a staged argument to strip her of her legal trust rights! The public perception—"

I raised my hand slightly.

Marcus Vance picked up a remote control and pressed a button.

The large eighty-inch high-definition presentation monitors lining the boardroom walls instantly flickered to life.

The 4K video recording from my phone began playing.

The crystal-clear video filled the boardroom screens. The high-fidelity audio echoed through the room's speakers at full volume.

The board members watched in absolute, stunned terror as Corrine Sterling held my wife down by her hair, slapping her across the face while yelling: “Cry louder, you pathetic wretch! Your husband is on a flight to Tokyo!”

They watched Sloan swing the twelve-pound sledgehammer into my safe while yelling about transferring property deeds into their names before morning.

Donald Hayes’s face turned from red to a ghostly, snow-white pale. His eyes bulged as he watched the video play to its agonizing conclusion.

When the video finished, Marcus turned off the monitors. The silence in the boardroom was terrifying. Not a single person breathed. Two female board members had their hands over their mouths, tears of disgust in their eyes.

I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the glass table, locking my eyes directly onto Donald Hayes.

"Does anyone else on this board wish to discuss 'public perception'?" I asked softly.

No one spoke.

"Donald," I said, turning my head toward him. "You mentioned that Corrine called you from the detention center an hour ago."

Donald swallowed hard, his collar suddenly looking far too tight. "Thane... I... I was only trying to gather all the facts—"

"You weren't gathering facts, Donald," I said, pulling a thin document from the leather binder behind me and tossing it across the glass table. It slid smoothly, stopping right in front of his shaking hands. "You were coordinating with her. For the past three years, you have been leaking internal Sterling Global acquisition plans to a shell company registered in Nevada under Sloan Sterling’s name, allowing her to short our stock prior to major announcements."

The entire boardroom gasped.

Donald’s hands began to shake violently as he looked at the printed bank statements, wire transfers, and encrypted chat logs detailing his insider trading network with my sister.

"This is... this is illegal wiretapping!" Donald stammered, sweating profusely. "You can't use this!"

"I don't need to use it in court, Donald," I smiled, a dark, vicious expression. "I’ve already forwarded the unredacted files to the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice. Federal agents are currently waiting outside this building to arrest you for corporate espionage and security fraud."

As if on cue, two federal agents in dark suits stepped into the boardroom, flanked by building security.

"Donald Hayes?" the lead agent stated, pulling out a set of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for insider trading, corporate fraud, and conspiracy. Stand up."

Donald collapsed back into his leather chair, trembling violently as the agents pulled him up, clicking the handcuffs around his wrists in front of the entire silent board.

"Thane! Please! I was manipulated by Corrine!" Donald wept as he was led out of the boardroom. "She threatened to expose my personal life! Please, Thane!"

I didn't even turn around to watch him leave.

I straightened my cuffs, looking across the remaining board members. "Now. As for Sterling Global stock... Marcus."

"Stock prices have already rebounded six percent following the release of the official LAPD press statement confirming Mr. Sterling was the victim of a home invasion," Marcus announced crisply. "Furthermore, Mr. Sterling has authorized a five-hundred-million-dollar stock buyback program starting at noon today to stabilize market confidence."

The remaining board members stood up one by one, bowing their heads in deep respect and absolute fear.

"We stand with you, Mr. Sterling," the senior board director declared firmly. "Whatever you need to crush these criminals, the board supports you one hundred percent."

"Good," I stood up, buttoning my suit jacket. "Then meeting adjourned. I have an estate to rebuild."
