Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Peace

That night, a private celebration was held at the Lake Forest estate.

The grand gardens were illuminated by thousands of fairy lights strung through the ancient oak trees. A live jazz band played softly near the stone fountain, and tables were laden with rich Italian food, fine wine, and fresh pastries from Henderson’s.

All of Arthur’s closest allies were present—Leo, the senior capos, Jamie, and the family’s trusted advisers. There were no guns visible, no tense standoffs, no dark whispers in corners. It was a gathering of a family that had survived a tempest and emerged stronger on the other side.

Arthur stood on the upper terrace, holding a glass of sparkling water, looking out over his estate.

Chloe walked out to join him, stepping into the cool night air. She wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, resting her cheek against his back.

“Matteo is fast asleep,” she murmured. “The nurse says he won't wake up until six.”

Arthur turned around in her arms, wrapping his suit jacket around her shoulders to shield her from the evening breeze.

“You look beautiful tonight,” he said, his gaze sweeping over her face with the same breathless intensity he had felt the night he first held her in his apartment.

“You look like a man who has everything he wants,” she replied softly.

“I do,” Arthur admitted, pulling her closer until there was no space between them. “Nine months ago, I was standing in a cathedral, prepared to marry a woman I hated to save an empire I didn't care about. I thought my life was just a series of cold calculations.”

He reached out, his thumb gently smoothing over her lower lip.

“Then you walked through those doors,” he continued, his voice thick with emotion. “Soaked, bloodied, holding our child, risking everything to save a man who had broken your heart. You saved my life, Chloe. In every way a man can be saved.”

Chloe looked up into his eyes, her heart swelling with an overwhelming, absolute love.

“I didn't walk into that cathedral just to save you from the poison, Arthur,” she whispered, her hands rising to press against his cheeks. “I walked in because I knew, deep down, that you were the only man who could ever hold my heart. I came back for us.”

Arthur leaned down, his mouth covering hers in a long, deep, passionate kiss that carried the weight of every trial they had survived, every victory they had claimed, and every promise they had made to each other.

Beneath the starlit sky of Chicago, surrounded by the laughter of their family and the quiet breath of their sleeping son, Arthur Romano held his wife tightly against his chest.

The war was over. The empire was safe. And the mob boss who had once ruled through fear now ruled through an unbreakable, sovereign love.
