Chapter 10 - The Sicilian Sun

A week after the trial, a private yacht glided smoothly across the crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, approaching the dramatic coastal cliffs of northern Sicily.

Perched atop a green hillside overlooking the Mediterranean sat the Vigna d'Oro—a magnificent 19th-century stone villa surrounded by sprawling vineyards, olive groves, and ancient stone terraces.

Isabella stood at the bow of the yacht, wearing a white linen dress, the warm Mediterranean breeze tossing her dark curls around her face.

Matteo walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched the estate come into view.

“This was Don Vito’s original home,” Matteo murmured softly, pointing up at the sunlit villa. “Stolen seventy years ago. Today, it officially reopens as an international cultural exchange center managed by the Romano Foundation.”

Isabella rested her hands over his on her waist. “It’s beautiful, Matteo. Your great-grandfather would be so proud.”

“He isn't the only one who built this future, Isabella,” Matteo said gently.

He turned her around in his arms until she was facing him. The afternoon sun cast a brilliant golden glow across his sharp features, making his grey eyes shine like silver.

Reaching into his jacket pocket, Matteo pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it to reveal a stunning antique ring—a brilliant, solitaire diamond set in intricate, hand-carved Sicilian gold filigree.

Isabella gasped, her hand flying to her mouth, tears of joy welling in her eyes.

“Isabella Marino,” Matteo said, his voice quiet, steady, and filled with infinite tenderness. “Eight months ago, a brilliant, fierce woman cursed me in a Brooklyn restaurant and called me an arrogant iron head. She taught me that true strength isn't built on fear, but on honor, courage, and truth.”

He took her right hand, holding it gently in his.

“Will you marry me, Isabella? Will you share this life, this home, and this name with me forever?”

Isabella looked at the ring, then into the eyes of the man who had protected her, cherished her, and loved her beyond measure.

“Sì,” she whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks into a radiant smile. “Sì, mio capitano. Yes, a thousand times yes.”

Matteo slipped the gold ring onto her finger, pulling her into a fiery, breathless kiss as the golden Sicilian sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sea in brilliant shades of rose, gold, and indigo.
