Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Vow

Four months later.
The private maternity wing of St. Jude’s Memorial Hospital was bathed in the soft, warm light of a late winter morning. Snow was falling gently outside the window, dusting the pine trees in white, but inside the private suite, the air was warm and peaceful.
Della lay in the high-tech hospital bed, looking exhausted but filled with an indescribable, radiant joy. Wrapped in a soft pink blanket resting against her chest was a newborn baby girl—dark hair, soft pink cheeks, and bright, curious eyes that were currently wide open.
Standing right beside the bed, his dark suit jacket discarded over a chair, was Victor Ross.
The man who ruled the city’s underground, who had dismantled political dynasties and made billionaires tremble with a single word, was currently holding a tiny, sterile bottle of warm water, his huge, tattooed hands moving with agonizing gentleness as he helped Della adjust the baby's blanket.
"She’s perfect, Della," Victor whispered, his voice thick with an emotion he had rarely ever allowed himself to feel in his hard, violent life. "She’s completely perfect."
"Do you want to hold her?" Della asked softly, looking up at him with tired, loving eyes.
Victor froze, looking genuinely terrified for the first time in his life. "Me? I... Della, I don't know... I might drop her. My hands are too rough."
"Victor," Della said with a soft chuckle, reaching out to touch his arm. "You held me when I was bleeding in the lobby. You saved us. You won't drop her."
Swallowing hard, Victor carefully reached out. Della gently transferred the tiny bundle into his arms.
Victor stood frozen in the middle of the hospital room, holding the seven-pound baby girl against his broad chest. He looked down at the tiny face, feeling the delicate, rhythmic rise and fall of her chest. The baby let out a tiny, soft sigh, nestling her head right against the lapel of his shirt.
In that single, quiet moment, something in Victor Ross’s chest healed completely. The darkness, the blood, and the brutal violence of his past seemed to dissolve, replaced by a deep, ferocious, and sacred purpose.
A soft knock sounded at the door, and Marcus stepped into the room holding a small velvet jeweler’s box.
"Boss," Marcus whispered, keeping his voice quiet so as not to startle the child. "The jeweler just brought it from the workshop."
"Thank you, Marcus," Victor said softly.
Marcus handed him the box, giving Della a respectful nod. "Congratulations, Miss Marsh. She is a beautiful child."
"Thank you, Marcus," Della smiled warmly.
Marcus stepped back outside, closing the door quietly behind him.
Victor walked back to the bed, carefully cradling the baby in one arm while opening the velvet box with his free hand. Inside was the gold bracelet he had given Della months ago. But now, the tiny gold heart charm was no longer blank.
Engraved in fine, elegant script were the words: Maya Marsh Ross - Born December 14.
Della looked at the engraving, her heart swelling with an overwhelming wave of love. "Maya..." she murmured softly. "It’s beautiful, Victor."
"She carries your grace, Della," Victor said, sitting on the edge of the bed and returning the tiny baby to her mother’s arms. He took Della’s right hand—the hand bearing the old crescent scar—and brought it to his lips, kissing the soft skin tenderly.
"Five years ago," Victor said quietly, looking into Della’s eyes with absolute devotion, "you saved my life in a rain-soaked alley. You didn't know who I was, but you gave me a second chance at living."
He looked at little Maya, who was sleeping peacefully in Della’s arms.
"I made a promise to myself that night that if I ever found you, I would protect you with everything I had," Victor continued, his voice steady and filled with an unbreakable vow. "Now, I make a new promise to both of you. As long as I draw breath, no harm will ever touch this family. You will never walk alone again."
Della reached up with her left hand, gently resting her palm against his cheek, feeling the soft stubble and the warmth of his skin.
May you like
"We aren't alone anymore, Victor," Della whispered softly, tears of pure joy shining in her eyes. "We have you."
Outside the window, the winter snow continued to fall gently over the city, covering the cold, hard streets in a blanket of soft, pristine white. But inside the room, bathed in warmth and love, a new family had been born from the ashes of a shattered mirror—unbreakable, protected, and forever bound by a debt of the heart.
