Chapter 10 - The New Empire

One year later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the manicured green lawns of the Lake Forest estate. The stone walls had been completely restored, the security systems upgraded to military-grade standards, and the estate was quiet, peaceful, and thriving.
Capo Dominic and his co-conspirators were long gone—eliminated in a single, decisive night that firmly established Dante Rosetti as the undisputed, absolute king of Chicago’s underworld. No one questioned his authority. No one whispered about his strength.
And no one ever doubted his wife.
On the grand stone terrace overlooking the sparkling blue lake, Clara sat in a comfortable outdoor armchair, wearing a dark blue silk dress.
In her arms, she held a four-month-old baby boy with thick dark hair, chubby cheeks, and bright, dark gray eyes that watched the world with quiet, sharp intelligence.
Little Leo Rosetti.
A heavy step sounded behind her on the terrace.
Dante walked out into the warm sunlight, wearing a sharp charcoal suit without a tie, his dark hair slightly ruffled by the summer breeze.
He walked over to his family, kneeling beside Clara’s chair. He reached out his broad, scarred hand, gently tickling the baby’s chubby chin. Little Leo let out a happy, gurgling giggle, grabbing his father's thick index finger with his tiny fist.
Dante’s face softened completely, a warm, magnificent smile spreading across his handsome features—a smile he saved exclusively for his wife and son.
"He has your eyes, Dante," Clara said softly, leaning over to kiss his temple.
"He has your brain, thank God," Dante murmured, leaning up to kiss her lips gently. "Otherwise he'd be useless with a spreadsheet."
Clara chuckled warmly, leaning her head against his broad shoulder as they watched their son play.
Suddenly, the terrace doors opened, and Matteo stepped out, holding a tablet. "Boss, Mrs. Rosetti. The quarterly audit reports from the New York shipping ports just arrived. The new board wants Mrs. Rosetti’s sign-off before they finalize the merger."
Dante looked up at his underboss, then looked at his wife with deep pride.
"Tell them Mrs. Rosetti will review the ledgers after lunch," Dante instructed calmly. "And tell them if the numbers are off by even one dollar, my wife will personally strip their licensing."
"Yes, Boss," Matteo smiled, nodding respectfully to Clara before retreating back inside.
Dante looked down at Clara, taking her small hand in his, intertwining their fingers over their son's blanket.
"Two years ago," Clara whispered softly, looking out over the sparkling lake, "I thought my life was over in that cramped little office on the South Side."

Dante pulled her closer, his lips brushing against her ear, his voice low, rough, and filled with infinite love.
"Your life didn't end, Clara," Dante murmured softly. "You just found where you truly belonged. Right beside me."
