Chapter 10 - The Queen of the City

Spring arrived six months later, bringing blooming cherry blossoms and warm sunshine to the Lake Forest estate.

The grand wrought-iron gates opened to welcome dozens of luxury vehicles rolling up the winding driveway. The estate was hosting a massive, elegant reception—not a secret gathering of mobsters, but a high-society charity gala celebrating the launch of the Isabella Harrison Foundation for Women and Children.

The grand ballroom was filled with politicians, business leaders, foreign diplomats, and senior family capos who now operated under strict, legitimate commercial codes enforced by Vincent.

Standing on the grand marble balcony overlooking the packed foyer was Vincent Romano, looking broad and imposing in a black tuxedo.

Beside him stood Lydia. She was breathtaking in an emerald-green silk evening gown, her hair styled in an elegant updo, the blue sapphire necklace glittering brilliantly against her collarbone. On her left ring finger sat a massive, flawless diamond ring—a promise of absolute protection, love, and partnership.

Old Marco walked up the stairs, holding two glasses of champagne, bowing his head respectfully as he handed them to the couple. "The press and the city council are waiting for your opening speech, Mrs. Romano."

Lydia smiled warmly at Marco. "Thank you, Marco. We'll be down in a moment."

Marco bowed again and walked back down the stairs to manage the security detail.

Vincent turned to look at Lydia, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unyielding devotion. He took her hand, kissing her knuckles softly.

"Are you ready, my Queen?" Vincent asked softly, a faint, rare smile gracing his lips.

Lydia looked out over the crowded, shining hall, then back into the dark, loving eyes of the most powerful man in the city—the man who had turned his grief into a fortress to protect her.

"I was born ready, Vincent," Lydia whispered, her voice filled with quiet, unbreakable strength.

Hand in hand, Vincent and Lydia walked down the grand marble staircase together, entering the bright light of their new world, completely untouchable, forever unbroken, and bound by a truth that had conquered the dark.
