Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Heart

By spring, the estate grounds were ablaze with fresh green grass, blooming tulips, and sweet-smelling cherry blossoms.

The Bennett Foundation had successfully cleared over three million dollars in medical debt for more than two hundred families across Chicago. My name was no longer spoken in hushed whispers among the staff; I was recognized as an executive, a leader, and a woman of profound influence.

Yet, despite all the changes, the most meaningful transformation had taken place between Ethan and me.

We spent our evenings together in the library, discussing financial strategies, reading, or simply enjoying the quiet comfort of each other’s presence. The professional boundaries that had once separated a billionaire employer and his former maid had slowly, naturally dissolved into a deep, unshakeable partnership built on mutual trust, respect, and unspoken affection.

One warm May evening, as the golden sunset illuminated the grand terrace, Ethan asked me to walk with him through the rose gardens.

We walked along the stone paths, the cool evening breeze rustling through the trees.

Ethan stopped near the central marble fountain, turning to look at me. He wore a crisp white shirt with the collar open, his storm-grey eyes filled with a soft, nervous warmth I had never seen before.

“Ivy,” he began, his voice surprisingly gentle. “For the past six months, I have watched you rebuild your life with extraordinary grace, intelligence, and strength. You have transformed this estate, you have saved hundreds of lives through your foundation, and you have filled a house that was once cold and lonely with warmth.”

He took both of my hands in his, his fingers wrapping firmly around mine.

“When I first brought you up from that kitchen,” Ethan continued, looking directly into my eyes, “I told myself I was doing it out of duty and justice. But the truth is... from the very moment I saw you standing under those lights, I knew you were extraordinary.”

My heart hammered against my ribs, a wave of profound joy sweeping through my chest.

“I don't want to be just the man who helped you clear your path, Ivy,” Ethan whispered, stepping closer, his presence warm and enveloping. “I want to walk beside you. I want to share my life, my home, and my heart with you—if you will have me.”

I looked into his eyes—the eyes of the man who had seen me at my absolute lowest, who had looked at my bruises without pity, and who had given me the tools to stand tall.

“Ethan,” I murmured, a radiant smile illuminating my face. “You saved my life. But more than that... you showed me that I was worthy of being loved.”

May you like

I stood on my tiptoes, wrapping my arms around his neck, and pressed my lips against his.

Ethan pulled me close, his arms wrapping tightly around my waist, kissing me with a deep, passionate tenderness that sealed our past, our present, and our forever.
