Chapter 6 - The Unbroken Wire

The master bedroom was bathed in the amber glow of the fireplace.

Luciano set Chloe down gently on the edge of the massive king-sized bed, but he didn't pull away. He remained kneeling between her knees, his big hands resting on her thighs, his dark eyes searching her face with an intensity that made her heart hammer against her ribs.

"If you want me to wait, Chloe," Luciano said, his deep voice thick with restraint, "say the word. I have waited seven years to claim you properly. I can wait longer."

Chloe looked down at him—at the ruthless mafia boss who had torn through an army to keep her safe, who had held her hand in front of the world, and who was now sitting at her feet waiting for her permission.

She reached down, her soft fingers untying the silk tie around his neck, pulling it free and tossing it to the floor.

"Don't make me wait another second, Luciano," she whispered.

A low growl escaped his chest. He stood up, pulling her into his arms, his mouth coming down on hers with a fierce, consuming passion that swept away every remaining doubt in her mind.

That night, among the silk sheets of the Costa master suite, the last traces of the timid housekeeper vanished completely. Luciano worshiped every inch of her lush, rounded body, his rough, tattooed hands tracing the curves he had spent months desperately pretending not to notice. And Chloe met his passion with her own fierce hunger, locking her fingers in his dark hair as they sealed their seven-year-old blood bond into a living, breathing reality.

By three o'clock the following morning, the phone beside the bed vibrated softly.

Luciano reached out smoothly, answering before the second ring could wake Chloe, who was sleeping peacefully against his chest, her head resting over his heart.

"Report," Luciano whispered.

"It’s done, boss," Rocco’s voice came through the receiver, sounding tired but triumphant. "The fourth avenue facility was completely secured. We captured Bellini’s entire primary bond reserve and three of his senior lieutenants. Don Bellini himself was intercepted at the airfield trying to catch a private jet to the Bahamas."

Luciano’s jaw tightened. "Where is he now?"

"In the basement at the docks, boss. Waiting for you."

"Good," Luciano said flatly. "And the Romano family?"

"Don Vito Romano called five minutes ago," Rocco reported. "When he heard we took fourth avenue, he completely withdrew his support from Bellini. He’s offering a full diplomatic sit-down tomorrow afternoon at neutral territory to finalize terms."

Luciano looked down at Chloe, gently kissing the top of her dark hair.

"Tell Vito we will hold the sit-down at the Grand Hotel downtown at three PM," Luciano commanded. "And tell him that if Celeste Romano is not present to deliver a formal, public apology to my wife, there will be no terms."

"Understood, Don Luciano."

Luciano hung up the phone, slipping his arm back around Chloe’s waist, pulling her flush against his chest as the fire crackled softly in the hearth.
