Chapter 10 - The Sea of Palermo

Six months later.

The summer sun shone brilliantly over the harbor of Palermo, painting the Tyrrhenian Sea in shades of shimmering sapphire and gold.

A massive commercial cargo vessel—the Elena V—lay docked at the main pier, bearing the crest of the Valente Maritime Corporation. Hundreds of dockworkers moved efficiently below, unloading containers under the supervision of professional managers.

Standing on the private upper deck of the port authority building overlooking the harbor was Arya.

She wore a tailored white linen suit, her dark hair pinned back elegantly, a subtle silver necklace glinting at her throat. She held a digital tablet in her hand, making quiet, precise notes as she monitored the shipping flow.

Beside her stood Dante.

He wore his customary charcoal suit, but he looked younger, healthier, the dark shadows beneath his eyes completely gone. His heavy arm rested comfortably over the railing as he looked out at the bustling harbor he now ran legitimately.

"The port authority approved the new green energy shipping lane this morning," Arya reported, turning to him with a proud smile. "We're two weeks ahead of schedule."

Dante chuckled, taking a sip of his espresso. "You are turning me into a legitimate businessman, Arya. The city council doesn't know what to do with me."

"They're terrified of you," she teased lightly. "Which makes my job much easier."

Down on the pier, a black sedan pulled up.

Elena stepped out of the vehicle, wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat and a blue summer dress. She walked without assistance, her breathing clear and deep in the warm sea air, holding a basket of fresh pastries from the city's finest bakery. She looked up toward the upper deck, waving cheerfully to her husband and daughter.

Dante waved back, his dark eyes softening with an absolute, profound happiness.

"Six months ago," Dante spoke quietly, his voice filled with emotion, "I walked into La Piera thinking I was looking for a minor security breach."

He turned to look at Arya, reaching out his heavy hand to touch her shoulder gently.

"I walked into that restaurant looking for an answer to an old grudge... and I found my life instead."

Arya smiled, leaning her head briefly against her father's shoulder, looking out over the sparkling sea where her mother was walking toward them.

The scar along Dante's jaw—the pale, jagged mark that had once been a symbol of betrayal, violence, and twenty-four years of stolen time—was no longer a mark of grief.

It was the mark that had brought them home.

"Come on, Dad," Arya said softly, taking his arm. "Let's go down and meet Mom. She brought the good pastries."

Dante laughed—a rich, deep sound that echoed over the blue waters of Palermo—and together, father and daughter walked down to join the family they had fought so hard to rebuild.
