Chapter 8 - RECLAIMING THE EMPIRE

By noon, the news swept through the underworld like a sudden, violent hurricane.
Don Vicenzo’s execution for treason was formally announced to the Commission. Antonio Moretti’s shadow network was completely liquidated within four hours, its assets absorbed entirely into the Rinaldi family ledger.
At the Rinaldi headquarters in Downtown Manhattan, the heads of all five major families were assembled in the grand boardroom.
Matteo sat at the head of the long mahogany table, wearing a crisp dark suit.
Beside him, sitting in an executive chair that had traditionally been reserved only for the Capo, sat Elena.
She wore an elegant black tailored suit, her dark hair pinned back, her posture regal and confident. There was no trace left of the frightened, isolated woman from the sitting room. She looked every bit the Queen of the Rinaldi syndicate.
The family capos looked at her with newfound awe and absolute respect. The story of her three-year sacrifice—how she had taken a bullet and held off Moretti’s network single-handedly—had already spread through the ranks, turning her into a legendary figure within the organization.
“The Moretti threat is permanently erased,” Matteo announced to the table, his voice reverberating through the silent room. “All shipping lines in New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Zurich are under direct Rinaldi control.”
The capos nodded in unison, murmuring their agreement.
“And one more thing,” Matteo added, leaning forward, resting his hand firmly over Elena’s on the table. “My wife, Elena Rinaldi, holds absolute executive authority over all family assets and intelligence networks. An order from her is an order from me. Anyone who disrespects her, questions her, or threatens her peace will answer directly to me.”
Old Capo Luciano, the senior member of the Commission, stood up from his chair, raising his glass of wine toward Elena.
“To the Lady of the House,” Luciano toasted with deep sincerity. “May God protect her strength.”
The entire room stood up, lifting their glasses in unison. “To Elena!”
May you like
Elena looked around the room, a genuine, soft smile gracing her lips for the first time in three years. She squeezed Matteo’s hand under the table, her heart overflowing with a deep, profound peace.
The shadow was gone. The war was won.
