Chapter 10 - The Sovereign Queen

Six months later, the golden autumn sunlight swept across the pristine lawns of the Main Line hills.
The grand dining hall of the Russo estate was filled with the warm scent of fresh jasmine and roasted coffee. The heavy oak doors were open, letting the soft morning breeze drift through the high velvet drapes.
Claire sat at the head of the dark walnut table—the very same table she had been polishing with her left hand on that fateful Tuesday morning seven months ago. She was dressed in a tailored emerald silk dress, her long hair pinned up elegantly, her right hand holding a gold fountain pen as she reviewed the monthly operational reports for the Margaret Brennan Foundation.
Her mother, Margaret, was sitting across from her in a plush armchair, sipping tea and smiling peacefully. Thanks to the advanced therapy at St. Jude, her dementia symptoms had stabilized remarkably, allowing her to enjoy long, calm afternoons surrounded by beauty and safety.
A tall figure stepped through the archway connecting the study to the dining hall.
Dominic walked over to Claire, leaning down to press a soft, loving kiss against her forehead. He set a fresh cup of tea beside her documents, resting his hand gently on her shoulder.
"The morning reports from the docks just arrived," Dominic said smoothly, his voice filled with quiet affection. "All shipping channels are clear. The foundation's secondary grant was approved by the board this morning."
Claire turned her head, smiling up at him, her brown eyes shining with complete happiness and security. She reached up and squeezed his hand tightly.
"Thank you, my love," she murmured softly.
"Mr. Russo! Miss Claire!" Marco called out respectfully as he stepped into the foyer, holding a secure satellite phone. "The regional directors are on line two for the weekly briefing."
Dominic looked at Claire, a subtle, knowing smile gracing his handsome face. "Tell them to wait five minutes, Marco. The Queen of this house hasn't finished her morning tea yet."
Marco smiled broadly, offered a respectful nod, and quietly stepped back into the hallway.
Claire laughed softly, leaning her head against Dominic's chest as his strong arms wrapped around her from behind, holding her close against his heart.

She looked down at her right arm—at the smooth, unblemished skin where a terrible fracture had once threatened to break her life apart. The pain of the past was gone, replaced by an untouchable strength and a love that had reshaped an entire city.
Fifteen men had vanished in a single night because someone dared to hurt the woman Dominic Russo loved. And standing in the grand halls of the empire they now shared together, Claire Brennan knew with absolute certainty that she would never have to hide in the shadows again.
