Chapter 7 - The Boardroom and the Ledger

By nine o'clock on Friday morning, the sun rose over Chicago in a brilliant, cloudless expanse of blue.

Inside the grand seventy-fifth-floor boardroom of Hale Tower, thirty senior board members, major institutional investors, and legal advisors sat around a fifty-foot table made of polished Brazilian rosewood.

At the head of the table sat Rowan Hale. He was dressed in a pristine navy-blue bespoke suit, looking completely recovered, commanding, and absolute in his authority.

Sitting to his immediate right was Amani Rhodes. She wore an elegant charcoal-grey executive suit, her long auburn hair styled neatly over her shoulders, her presence calm, poised, and utterly dignified.

Lying in the center of the rosewood table was the tractor-fed paper chemical log from Sloan Medical Consulting, alongside a clear glass display box holding the blue bottle of Cerebro-Dampen 7.

Rowan rested his hands flat on the table, his dark eyes sweeping over the gathered executives.

“For two years,” Rowan began, his voice echoing with absolute authority, “Sloan Medical Consulting attempted to infiltrate this corporation through deceit, fraud, and chemical administration. They believed that by creating a false narrative of my mental degradation, they could force this board into a receivership that would hand them control of our six-billion-dollar rail network.”

Rowan gestured toward Amani.

“They failed because of one person,” Rowan declared firmly. “Amani Rhodes saw what thirty senior corporate auditors failed to see. She faced down threats, bribes, and physical violence to deliver the truth to this board.”

The lead independent director—an elder statesman of Chicago finance named Arthur Sterling—stood up from his seat. He looked at Amani with deep, profound respect, raising his glass of water.

“To Miss Amani Rhodes,” Sterling said clearly. “The finest Compliance Officer Hale Continental has ever seen.”

The entire boardroom stood up, bursting into a long, loud ovation that lasted for two full minutes.

Amani looked around the room at the powerful men and women clapping for her. Eighteen hours ago, she was an invisible girl scrubbing marble floors in Lake Forest. Today, she sat at the head of the empire, her mind respected, her courage honored, and her future secured.

She looked at Rowan. Rowan was looking at her, a look of quiet, intense pride glowing in his dark eyes.
