Chapter 5 - The Financial Abyss

Before Arthur could respond, the heavy double doors at the main entrance of the Bellevue Estate were pushed open.
Four men in sharp, tailored grey suits walked into the ballroom, flanked by two plainclothes officers carrying leather briefcases. The lead man—a sharp-featured attorney named Marcus Vance—scanned the room until his eyes locked onto me.
He walked past the security detail, completely ignoring the wedding decorations, and stopped three feet away from my position, offering a respectful, crisp bow of his head.
“Admiral Vance,” Marcus said loudly enough for the surrounding tables to hear. “The federal audit has concluded. The court-ordered asset seizures for Rowe Financial Holdings have been finalized as of 21:00 hours tonight.”
A collective shockwave rippled through the room.
Arthur’s face turned from pale grey to a sickly, ghostly white. “What?! What federal audit? Who are you?!”
Marcus turned his head, looking at my father with the cold professionalism of an executioner. “I am Marcus Vance, chief legal counsel for the Federal Maritime Security Commission. For the past six months, your firm, Rowe Financial, has been under investigation for laundering capital through offshore logistics accounts tied to illegal maritime smuggling.”
Julian let out a panicked scream. “That’s private commercial data! You can't touch those accounts! We have political immunity in this state!”
“You had political immunity,” Marcus replied smoothly, pulling a thick stack of court orders from his briefcase. “Until Admiral Vance authorized the Joint Military-Federal Task Force to seize all assets linked to high-risk maritime security threats. Since Rowe Financial used naval shipping lanes to move un-audited capital, the Admiral had full statutory authority to sign the freeze orders.”
Arthur stumbled backward, bumping into the edge of Table 42. “You... you froze our accounts? All of them?”
“As of ten minutes ago,” Marcus confirmed, “every bank account, trust fund, credit line, and property deed associated with Arthur Rowe, Julian Rowe, and Rowe Financial Holdings has been impounded by the federal government pending criminal indictment.”
The room erupted into total bedlam.
Dozens of wealthy investors stood up from their tables, yelling frantically into their mobile phones, trying to check their personal investments tied to Rowe Financial.
“My funds are locked!” a billionaire property developer shouted from Table 12. “Arthur, you bastard! What did you do with my ninety million dollars?!” “My credit cards just got declined!” another guest screamed near the champagne fountain. “The firm is frozen! Rowe Financial is going under!”
Arthur looked at me, his eyes wide with absolute, shattered disbelief. He collapsed into a chair at Table 42—the very table he had assigned to me as a insult—his hands trembling so violently he couldn't keep them flat on the cloth.
“You... you destroyed us,” Arthur whispered, his voice cracking with ruin. “You came here tonight... just to destroy your own family?”
May you like
I stood over him, my silver bracelet glinting under the dim corner light.
“I didn't destroy you, Arthur,” I said calmly. “You destroyed yourself the day you decided that money and power gave you the right to stomp on human dignity. I simply stopped protecting you from the consequences of your own crimes.”
