Chapter 9 - The Flagship Deck

Six months later.

The USS Enterprise, the Navy’s newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, sliced through the deep blue waters of the North Atlantic Ocean at thirty knots. Cold ocean spray kicked up against the massive steel hull, blowing across the four-acre flight deck where dozens of F-35 stealth fighters were lined up in precise tactical formations.

The sky above was clear, brilliant blue, stretching out to an infinite, unbroken horizon.

I stood on the bridge wing of the flagship, wearing my working khakis, an operational leather flight jacket, and dark sunglasses. The cold Atlantic wind bit at my face, but it felt refreshing, clean, and full of life.

Beside me stood Captain Liora Vance, holding a secure operational ledger, her dark hair tied back in a neat military bun.

“All carrier strike groups are in position, Admiral,” Liora reported, her voice steady against the roar of the jet engines warming up on the deck below. “Exercise Northern Shield is officially underway. NATO command has confirmed receipt of our tactical fleet coordinates.”

“Very good, Captain,” I said, not taking my eyes off the horizon. “Execute flight launch schedule Alpha.”

“Aye, sir.” Liora stepped inside the pilot house to relay the orders to the air boss.

A moment later, the steam catapults roared to life with a deafening metallic boom, launching the first F-35 into the sky. The aircraft roared into the blue expanse, its twin afterburners painting streaks of orange fire against the clouds before climbing effortlessly toward the heavens.

I leaned my forearms against the steel railing of the bridge wing, watching my fleet maneuver with absolute, disciplined perfection. Forty warships, three submarine divisions, and eight hundred aircraft—a force capable of deterring empires, maintaining peace across oceans, and protecting millions of innocent lives.

My phone, secured inside my jacket pocket on a restricted military network, buzzed with a rare personal notification.

I pulled it out. It was a digital memorandum from my legal team in Atlanta.

The final judicial liquidation of the Rowe family assets had been completed. The Bellevue Estate had been sold at public auction to a non-profit veteran housing foundation for pennies on the dollar. The proceeds of the remaining Vance Global asset seizures had been officially transferred into a federal trust fund dedicated to providing university scholarships for the children of fallen military service members.

The name 'Rowe Financial' had been legally expunged from the state corporate registry.

I looked at the digital document for three seconds, then hit 'Delete.'
