Chapter 7 - The Raid

The heavy double-wide garage door facing the driveway didn't just open—it was violently breached.
A heavy black tactical SUV rammed through the center aluminum panels, tearing the door off its tracks with a deafening screech of twisted metal and shattering glass.
Brilliant, hundred-thousand-lumen white searchlights flooded the garage, blinding Grant and Lenora instantly.
"POLICE! NOBODY MOVE! ON THE GROUND NOW!" heavy, authoritative voices roared through loudspeakers.
Grant shrieked like a terrified child, dropping to his knees and covering his head with his hands as glass rained down around him.
Lenora staggered backward, stumbling over a stack of paint cans, crashing heavily against the far wall.
Four tactical security officers dressed in black body armor, armed with secondary restraint gear, flooded through the breached garage entrance, followed immediately by three uniformed New York State Police officers.
At the front of the team stepped a tall, immaculate woman in a tailored dark grey suit, carrying a leather briefcase.
Sarah Sterling.
"Camille!" Sarah called out, rushing past the tactical team directly to my side.
She crouched down beside me, wrapping a warm wool blanket around my shoulders, her hands gently checking my leg brace.
"I’m here, Camille," Sarah whispered, her voice warm and fiercely protective. "You’re safe now."
Behind Sarah, two state troopers hauled Grant up from the concrete floor, pulling his arms behind his back and clicking heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Lenora shrieked, struggling against a female trooper who was forcing her arms behind her back. "Do you have any idea who I am?! I am Lenora Ellery! This is my son’s home! This woman is mentally unstable!"
Detective Mara Chen stepped into the garage, holding an official signed court order in her gloved hand.
"Lenora Ellery," Detective Chen announced coldly, reading from the paper. "You are under arrest for felony domestic assault, unlawful imprisonment, medical neglect of a vulnerable adult, and grand larceny conspiracy."
"This is ridiculous!" Lenora screamed, her voice cracking into an ugly, shrill pitch as she was pulled toward the driveway. "Grant! Tell them! Tell them she gave us permission!"
Grant was sobbing hysterically, his forehead pressed against the hood of the damaged police cruiser outside.
"She didn't give us permission..." Grant wept, his voice carrying clearly through the night air. "Mom... it was all your idea... you told me she wouldn't fight back..."
"Shut up, you idiot!" Lenora yelled at her son as the troopers shoved her into the back of a second squad car.
Two paramedics dressed in blue uniforms rushed into the garage with a specialized trauma stretcher, gently preparing to lift me off the concrete.
I grabbed Sarah’s sleeve with my left hand.
"Sarah... the lower vault," I whispered.
Sarah smiled gently, tapping her leather briefcase.
"The vault documents are already secure, Camille," Sarah assured me. "And as of four minutes ago, the Manhattan Supreme Court issued an emergency temporary restraining order and asset freeze against both Grant and Lenora."

She leaned down, her eyes flashing with absolute satisfaction.
"Tomorrow morning, Camille, we take back the rest."
